Bambino68 Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 Im off to Dublin this weekend for a week and am wondering if anyone knows of a good shop or two in which I can get a few rare smokes while Im in town. Thanks in advance David
Cohiba Stevie Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 You have the decent cigar emporium the top of grafton street, then foxes at the bottom of grafton. Both good shops with very friendly staff, i prefer the cigar emporium however as it isnt as busy as foxes, they also have quite good stock, dont be afraid to ask for anything your after.

Ryan Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 There are 3 cigar shops in Dublin. JJ Fox, Peterson's and Decent Cigar. All within a 5 minute walk of each other. Peterson's just moved premises last week to a new shop 50 yards from the old one. I've been in all three shops in the last week. Peterson's: nice looking shop they have now, mostly pipes and acessories. New walk-in humidor in the basement, you'll find some stock with some age, 5 - 10 years. They carry a lot of Ashton as well as Cubans. Decent Cigar: not too much here with age, although a good range of single cigars at good prices. Best place to buy Cuban coffee, beans and ground, if you want to bring some home. JJ Fox: well it's no secret that I'm acquainted with the owner, I won't go as far as friendly , but to me they have the best selection and condition. If you like, ask for David McGrane the manager, tell him Andy sent you, he'll take care of you. You will find some older, harder to find stuff there. Smoking well now are the Monte Especial No. 1 from 1998 at €15 each. I just bought another box last week they're that good. They have a good range of the LEs, right back to the Monte C 2003 and Monte Robusto 2006. Good range of the UK REs too, most of them, other than the Magnifico or RA Belicosos. Smoking well too are singles out of a few Upmann and Hoyo cabs from around 2002. (Mods, please delete any shopping advice above if it's out of line but it's really just advice for local shopping, plus I'm trying to stick to older/rarer stuff as requested) If you want to spend some money in Fox, you'll find much older and rarer stuff than that. PM me if you're up for a smoke at all while you're, it would be good to meet up, I'll see if I can get some of the guys together. We're mostly fairly normal. Or a lunchtime smoke if you like, I work within a 10 minute walk of all the cigar shops. Have a safe trip over
Bambino68 Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 Thanks for the input. Im coming over to do a show at the O2. So I hope I can walk to Fox's to get 2 or 3 boxes to take home. Ill send you a PM once we are settled in. Send me a PM with any recommendations of a LE box... Thanks David
mk05 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Yea go to J Fox. Look for the '98 Especiales and any Fox selections if he'll let you grab any. With the FX rate, you're gonna get hosed on most things.
Tino Posted October 29, 2012 Posted October 29, 2012 In Dublin for a long weekend, really enjoyed visiting JJ Fox and couldn't resist picking up a couple of the 98 Monte Especial No.1 and a few LGC Gloriosos UK RE.
polarbear Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Try the customs that The Emporium carry A little on the expensive side but I found them to be outstanding
AussieCanuck Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I'll be in Dublin over Dec/Jan this year. Are there any lounges or bars where you can go for a cigar ? I seem to recall (maybe incorrectly ) that all smoking was banned in bars etc in Ireland ?
Ryan Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Smoking in pubs is banned in Ireland since 2004 but plenty of pubs have very good, heated, smoking areas. It depends which part of the city you're staying in. For the city centre, you could try the following McGrattans http://www.mcgrattan...tertainment.htm Toners, huge smoking area, just to the side of the pub http://www.tonerspub.ie/ For Temple Bar, where I presume you'll spend an evening or two, try Oliver St. John Gogarty http://www.gogartys.ie/ I was there for a night last January in the upstairs smoking area and it was very comfortable. Irish music there too every night, if that's your thing. In that area, if you like whiskey, The Palace Bar is the place to go. No smoking area though. http://www.thepalacebardublin.com/ If you like, send me a pm before you travel, we'll try to meet up for a cigar.

They have an amazing coveredheated cigar terrace over there.. And best of all you can bring in your own cigars. They do not mind you doing so as long as you order something from the bar.

I've always heard good things about that place, it's 500 metres from my house and I've never been in it since it opened as a hotel. One of the cigar shops here uses it regularly for their cigar events, that says something. You're right about bringing your own cigars. No hotel/bar/restaurant with a smoking area in the country has a rule that you must buy on the premises in order to smoke although you'll be asked to leave after a while if you don't buy at least a drink, same as anywhere. Since the display ban, not many hotels or restaurants even sell cigars anymore. Another place I forgot to mention is House Dublin http://housedublin.ie/gallery-2/ Very new but I've heard great things about the smoking area. I'm going to a cigar event there myself on December 3rd.
AussieCanuck Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 Thanks for the advice guys ! I'll see if I can check some of those places out and maybe we can meet for a cigar somewhere Ryan.

Will see how it pans out lol
Ryan Posted November 28, 2013 Posted November 28, 2013 Good stuff Stevie. More the merrier, it would be good to see you at it. The place looks very nice.

The trip turned out to be a little bit of a family disaster ....in laws etc. Never had a chance to visit the places you mentioned. Got to play a couple of great rounds of golf at Portmarnock and Royal Dublin. That made up for it, partially. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Kbb Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Possibly heading to Dublin in October. Are all the above mentioned destinations still the best options for drinks, eats, and smokes? Any other recommendations? Thanks to all in advance.
