winelover Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Assuming the airport has a fairly standard range, which X.O. Would you pick up and why? The backhground is that my my wife has promised me a bottle on the return leg of her journey to Seoul. I doubt the airport will carry many lesser known houses that I like such as Hine, so out of the bigger ones e.g. Remy, Courvoissier, Martel, Hennessy etc - which would you go for and why? Please note I cannot go beyond standard XO. Many thanks Graham
Puros Y Vino Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Camus Borderies or Hine. But since you asked about the larger houses I'd go with Hennessy or Martel. To me Remy is somewhat "mainstream". Hennessey is too somewhat, but their product line appeals to me. Martel has always been a pleasant surprise. If you do see Camus in your travel, give it a shot. The Borderies is probably the silkiest Cognac I've ever tasted.

I've had the Martell Medallion VSOP which is more bordieres (and maybe petit champagne) and liked this a lot, so I am leaning towards asking the Mrs to get the X.O.
Hash Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Hennessy X.O i usually find it to be smooth.
gigabyte056 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 There are two main stores (Lotte and Shilla)in the Duty free section of Incheon airport and I assume the flight will leave from there. they carry the following brands: Remy Martin, Camus, Courvoisier, Hennesy ,Martell, House of Hemery (limited availability),Otard and Meukow. I have sampled the Remy,Courvoisier, Hennesy ,Martell and the Meukow. Would go with the Courvisier at X.O level as it is the nicest of the bunch, the Otard is not very good and the Meukow is a acquired taste Small tip, if you use Visa, you get 5% off as of 3 months ago...
LLC Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I normally go with the Courvoisier XO and prefer it to the Remy.

That's really helpful, thanks. I think my wife's family have a Lotte Gold/Platinum card which takes another 10% off too. Cheers. G
khomeinist Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Martell from that crowd. Higher end Pierre Ferrand is superior but that is not an option.
