CohibaStevie's post on the by hand video of Martinez Cigar Shop in NYC inspired me to stop by today and pickup some of their cigars. The friendly help advised I try the Pasion blend. My normal rotation includes habanos, but I still pickup a NC now and then, and do enjoy them.

Construction is very good. A little concerned about the draw as the cigar is a little soft. Clipped, the draw seams fine. A little more open than your average habano. Cold flavors are chocolate and earth.

First third and it smacks you with spice and pepper. Full bodied. The pepper is dominating the cigar. Tons of smoke and a great burn. Underneath the pepper are hints of earth and dark chocolate. The second third keeps pace. It is not toning down and I am looking for a little respite here. So I stay with it, and the final third gives me a break. I smoke a little slower and sip the cigar, thankfully, dark chocolate, earth and rich tobacco shine through. It ends with a positive note that I would describe as a cross between a MC4 and a BBF. Would love to have seen the last third start in the middle, but maybe my sipping should have started sooner. If you like NC's, worth trying, and the shop is worth visiting. Fun to see (like the video) and watch as the guys roll there right in front of you.
