Thinking about getting one of those two prong cork extractors, I like the idea of getting the cork out neatly.

Something like this, probably this brand.

Does anyone have any experience with these. Easy to use or a pain in the arse?

How do they work with very new corks or synthetic corks?

I don't want this to be another one of things clogging up the "stuff drawer" in the kitchen.

I've used one of these type for many years. They usually work great, but sometimes there is a stubborn cork that causes a problem. I haven't noticed much difference between real vs. synthetic corks in terms of performance. Good luck!

The ah-so is most essential when opening older bottles of wine that have deteriorating corks. If the center (of the cork) starts to crumble or squish in from the initial attempt by the corkscrew, the ah-so becomes an indispensable tool as it grips the outside of the cork. It's also very useful when a seemingly good cork breaks in half or even worse, in pieces mid-pull. Here you can use it to delicately retrieve out that nub without getting the cork debris in the wine. For new or synthetic corks, the corkscrew is king.

That's my go-to cork pull. Just looked at it and it's the same brand you're looking out. As CVB mentioned, once in a while you get a stubborn one, but even most of those can be finessed out. I do find, however, that the synthetic corks can be trickier (but not a problem in general). I find it more elegant and quicker than a cork screw. I can probably count on one hand the times over one year that it fails and I have to reach for a cork screw.

I've used all sorts of wine bottle openers; waiter's friend, two lever pull, the rabbit or single lever pull, gas injection popper, but I still find the two prong method the best of them all. Then again, with more wines being sealed under screw top, eventually this will also be relegated to my unused kitchen gadgets drawer.

worthwhile. they are pretty good tho for most bottles under cork i still use the normal screw. kev has nailed it - they are the best for older corks, or crumbly ones. for that reason alone, useful.

and with the move to screwcap, given the rest of the world will eventually catch up with us, the only bottles under cork you'll still have will be old ones.
