I'm afraid that you are wrong regarding total medals count per capita in London. NZ is not leading – it is Slovenia (4 medals with population of 2 millions).

Yorkshire 10th in Olympic medal table

The people of Yorkshire are celebrating their success at the London Olympics with 'God's Own Country' having produced a string of Olympic medallists.

Such has been the success of Yorkshire athletes at the Games that natives of the White Rose county had started tracking what their position in the Olympic medal table would be if they were an independent nation.

With Yorkshire men and women having played their part in four British golds, that puts 'Yorkshire nation' above sporting powerhouses like Australia, Japan and South Africa.

At the start of Monday, Yorkshire's haul of four golds, two silvers and two bronzes would have left them 10th in the Olympic medal table, just below Russia, and they were as high as seventh in the standings at one stage last weekend.

Jessica Ennis from Sheffield is the most high profile gold medallist from Yorkshire while cyclist Ed Clancy (Huddersfield) and rowers Katerine Copeland (Stokesley) and Andrew Triggs-Hodge (Hebden) played their part in gold medal-winning teams from Great Britain.

Otley cyclist Lizzie Armistead won silver in the women's road race, while Nicola Wilson of Northallerton was on the British eventing team that won equestrian silver.

Clancy also won a bronze in the Omnium while York Rowing Club's Tom Ransley was on the men's eights that also won bronze.

Yorkshire will be confident of adding to their gold tally on Tuesday when the Brownlee brothers from Leeds compete in the men's triathlon with Alistair the race favourite.

Hull boxer Luke Campbell is also guaranteed at least a bronze medal after reaching the Bantamweight semi-finals.
