Ken Gargett Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 leaving aside the pros and cons of guns, the two grubs of the aussie olympic team are at it again. unbelievable. one fakes a hit and run. the other belts the crap out of another swimmer (apparently his way of celebrating winning some race) after a skinful. then when the courts find in favour of the poor bloke whose life has been devastated, this grub immediately declares bankruptcy to avoid the pay-out. i will be cheering for any and every other nation in the swimming - i sincerely hope our lot come stone motherless last every race. i am so utterly disgusted that our olympic committee can put aside any pretence of "oylmpic ideals or standards" just because these idiots might win something. i have absolutely nothing but utter and complete contempt for the entire australian olympic movement. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/australian-olympic-swimmers-nick-darcy-and-kenrick-monk-pose-with-guns-in-facebook-photo/story-e6freon6-1226387791482
assassin Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I'm with you Ken--what an absolute farce! I love the Olympic games and take a couple of weeks of annual leave to watch as much as possible, those athletes you mentioned wont be getting my cheers. By the way if he is successful at the games will he still be bankrupt? And if not time to pay up---don't anyone hold there breath! As for the other swimming athletes I hope they do alright as its not their fault these unfortunate circumstances have come about.

I believe as he has declared bankruptcy, any pre-bankruptcy debt cannot be taken from future earnings. So the mug got away with it. Personally I think he should have been banned from the Olympic team as he has no clue what the Olympic spirit is all about. Then again, the Olympics are no longer about friendship and participation. It is just about winning bloody medals.

bebster Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Nothing to do with the gun thing really. These guys are just scumbags. There are always people like that in society... unfortunately these two turned out to be good at swimming.
coblos Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 I didn't know he declared bankruptcy. What a scumbag, he could have negotiated to pay from future earning.
Ken Gargett Posted June 7, 2012 Author Posted June 7, 2012 I didn't know he declared bankruptcy. What a scumbag, he could have negotiated to pay from future earning. was quite big news up here. he'd been supported for years by his parents, who i gather are quite wealthy. of course, they disappeared as soon as the medical bills from the bloke he bashed arrived. still, as they say, the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. at the moment, his earnings would be minimal so no great loss to him. he has never apologised or shown a smidge of remorse. utter grub. the more i think about it, the more contempt i have for our olympic officials. garbage.
Coolio Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 It is an absolute disgrace, and it makes me even more mad when i think of the next two kids in line for selection that missed out because these idiots made the team. If Swimming Australia had any balls they would dump them from the team and give two kids that deserve to represent their country a go. Idiots like these only give the good kids a bad name, and Murray Rose would be turning in his grave. I get the impression Darcy is a complete and utter d--khead, and up himself, whereas Monk is just dumb.
bebster Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Unfortunately, you don't get medals for being good Ambassadors for Australia - you get them for swimming bloody quickly. I'm sure Swimming Australia wishes that there were faster blokes to send to the olympics, but there aren't.

frenchkiwi Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 stopped watching most of the olympics over a decade ago. all about the mighty dollar, hence more and more sports involved for better tv deals (and sexy sports preferred like beach volleyball, such a noble discipline ;-), professional athletes (unavoidable but changes the nature of the comp) with performance bonuses for medals, etc etc. pierre de coubertin and all his romantic ideals are down the gurgler. i'd get interested again if they stripped it back down to individual sports only in truly athletic disciplines. maybe even just athletics but then where would the swimmers go? back to drinking and whoring i guess. (at the recent commonwealth games in india, toilets at the athletes village all got clogged with condoms after the first week)
Ken Gargett Posted June 8, 2012 Author Posted June 8, 2012 agreed. actually having lunch with a mate who ran in 1996. he tells some great stories. says bed-hopping rife. "i could have had any east german shotputter i wanted" was his quote. looking forward to hearing his thoughts.
