Here's my second piece for CBC from my recent trip to Cuba: there's far, far more to Cuban music than the Buena Vista Social Club. Think hip-hop and fusion: http://music.cbc.ca/#/blogs/2012/5/Five-new-sounds-of-Cuba-from-Danay-Suarez-to-Interactivo

I didn't get to talk about it in the piece, but I feel strongly that Cuba (and us tourists) need to get over the old-timey salsa, son and jazz they only play for us. There is an enormous amount of new music being made there that is hard to get at because they think we tourists won't like it.

I strongly suggest on your next trip you search out some music that's more contemporary, chances are you'll find something you like.

Totally agree Pedro! I have a section on my iPhone with perhaps 150 songs and instrumental that is wonderful. A whole evening or herf's worth.

Pedro,

thank you once again for the great contribution from Havana !

You made my evening here listening ( and watching ) to Danay Suarez and Raul Paz - last time I had the pleasure to see him was in Havana, what a great choice !

May I interest you in another interesting and very popular Cuban group, Buena Fe, I am sure you have heard of them, quite open and frank about the current situation, very intelligent lyrics.

I happened to be riding in a taxi along the Malecon a few years back when I heard this song by Frank Delgado & Buena Fe and have been hooked to this group ever since :

Gracias !

Nino
