It was a beautiful evening here in London so i decided to relax in the garden and do my first ever Cigar review. Hope you enjoy.

ERDM Choix Supreme - Box Code JNL DIC04

I've only been smoking Cigars for a few months and the Choix Supreme was one of the first singles i bought.

I've had a few over recent months and liked them enough to ask a mate to pick me up a box coming through Dubai airport.

I got lucky as he managed to grab a box with almost 8 years of age on them :)

Appearance

The wrapper is pretty rustic looking Colorado - no real sheen and a few bumps and veins. It feels reasonably firm to the touch and no obvious knots.

Pre light Aroma - Hay, earth and tobacco. The draw is nice and easy.

1/3 Mostly toasted tobacco and leather - pretty classic Cuban taste. It's medium bodied with plenty of creamy smoke but nothing much else going on.

2/3 Things are picking up. Along with the toasted tobacco i'm starting to get citrus and what i can only describe as baking bread.

Still copious amounts of smoke and it's becoming more full bodied as we move along. Burn is a little off but nothing a touch up light won't solve.

3/3 Getting lots of citrus now. Wondering if it's the lemon in the vodka tonic i'm drinking?

Plenty of white pepper and a finish that's almost menthol.

Overall impressions are that it was a nice cigar but not outstanding. I enjoyed it but it didn't rock my world.

I was hoping for more complexity and as i haven't really let them rest in my Humi since they arrived i will be looking for a little more out of the next stick.

88/100

Amen to that, even here in the Lakes, the sun is shining!

Nice review, of a good cigar.

Cheers chaps :) and yes, it was the first time my shorts had seen the light of day for at least 6 months. Hopefully summer has finally arrived!

What an uneven burn! Was this from a 50cab? 25 dresses usually have quite the box press. Well if it's the JNL 04, that could be a Hamlet. haha...

If I may opine, the CS are the most temperamental smokes I know of, in similar company of PLPC of new (I say this because I believe people who purchase PLPCs buy them trying to find the flavors of the old PLPCs, only to be disappointed time and time again - but in a cab of 50, there may be 5 or so that mimic its greatness). In a box of 25 of CS, no matter how nice looking or pungent, only a handful will be extraordinary - and it always has been this way in my experience with these. I have to believe that this stick must have been one living the life of the ordinary. A CS, when rolled just right, will let you know on the first puff. It will be unbelievably sugary. Taste of concentrated vanilla bean. Fresh White bread. Some brightness. Think pumpkin pie while drinking orange juice.

Smoke the rest of that box and I will guarantee you will find several which will blow this one away. When you do, let us know. I do not intend to take away from the review - just to let you know that there will be ones that will make you rethink cigars. My good friend here who goes by YH never really cared for CS. I let him try a puff from one that I was smoking that was "on," and he sat there in disbelief. I think his exact words were, "that's what a choix tastes like?"

Thanks for the review, the choix is one that I have a lover's quarrel with.

Thanks for the comments. Its a 25 count dress box and this isn't the first cigar i smoked out of the box. I enjoyed the other couple i smoked more, but didn't bother writing down my thoughts. Hopefully i will find other good examples in the box! I do like the Choix flavour profile and Isa, i wouldn't let this put you off. All cigars can have a bad day (and this was by no means bad - just not great!)
