cobra Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I personally favor Vegas Romanias or Bolivars with an 05 date. I have had some pretty green tasting smokes (especially FEB 05 R&J Churchills Tubos) of late. Does everbody shop with date codes being a factor determining selection on all smokes or are there some standards that are solid right off the truck?
habanohal Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I have never had "bad or green" cigars yet. THe only time They have the foul taste is if I dont let them sit for atleast 2 weeks before trying one. I do notice that alot of my aged cigars are getting a little mellow for my tastes. I prefer the more recent " in your face" kick of recent productions.
Bunker1028 Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 For my taste, the PSD#4 might be the only one I look for with a new box code. Everything else I prefer with some time on them. The P2 tasted right when I got them, but just read they may too go thru a sick period, but haven't had any in a while, so can;t say from experience.
El Presidente Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I shy away from overly dark young wrappers and anything that gives an amonia smell out of the box. I have gorged on Fresh Rass, Fresh Cohiba Robusto and Fresh Punch Punch.

Agree with you Prez, RASS & Cohiba robustos are good gear out of the box. Also HDM Epi. #2 nice with very little age, as are the Monte#4s
harwellplant Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 rass at the top of the list. that is one cigar that has a great unique taste young. some hate it, and some love it. the flavor profile really moves around with some age on it. also trini reyes, hit and miss uppman mag46, and monte edmundos are examples that come to mind from recent purchases.

Curmudgeon Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 PSP2s were very nice when they were that young.
DocRKS Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 The Upmann Mag 46 is a cigar that I have enjoyed even with only 6 months of age on it. I also agree with the above post that the Partagas PSP2s were really tasty right from their release date.

Is there a NEW Brand coming out of Cuba called Vegas Romanias????????????? I have smoked many Vegas Robaina's before, but generally prefer them with some age. I don't smoke any cigar right off the truck, just my humble opinion, but it is a total waste of time, effort, energy, and money. Even if they may be current production (2005), I give them At Least 30 days if not even more before I try them. I waited 90 days before smoking a PSP2 after they arrived to let them adjust to my humidor before pulling one out to smoke. Talking about the PSP2, I do not believe they are going into a "Sick Period", and I don't know if they will, every cigar can go into a "Sick Period" but only time will tell. My initial belief for those that have said they tasted them as such, are that they are storing them at too high an rh and they are over humidified and they are trying to smoke them too wet.
harwellplant Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 » Wow!!!! » » Is there a NEW Brand coming out of Cuba called Vegas » Romanias????????????? yes, chuck. it is made with carpathian ligero. it smacks of black sea salt and hemoglobin.
hagzo Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 i agree with the PSP2 being great young and i also think Habanohal has a good point about all cigars needing at least 2 weeks rest period Keith
Mel Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 » I prefer the more recent " in your face" kick of recent productions. Me too. I do not believe all Habanos have to age for years to be enjoyable. Fresh has its own pleasure and aged has its other. I like the new Bolivar cause it has the kick that Habanohal speaks of. Cohiba is rolled with more mature tobacco so it smokes good for me off the truck. RASS might be good before the roller finishes it. Good question because I hate to let my cigars go forever before I get to enjoy them.
Loki Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 I like em young, bold and in your face also. I also like the complexity that a well aged cigar developes. I think that the Dip #2 needs age ,at least 1 year, before they can truely be enjoyed. Fresh out of the box, I like the Bolivars. And as far as the PSP2 goes they may be going into a sick period, I will have to smoke one as I have not in about 6 mos.
cobra Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 » I personally favor Vegas Romanias or Bolivars with an 05 date. For those of you who are not familiar with the Vegas Romania, I will enlighten you. Its the only true Habanos with a flavored plastic tip. The sharp aficianado can buy them by the pound at any fueling station. The real good ones include a stick of gum and a pack of East European baseball cards. Watch for knockoffs! I guess spellcheck wouldn't even have helped me on that one........

LoL :-D Anyways, I wouldn't say the RASS is bad as young. But one of the boxes I bought had a strong ammonia smell. I'm letting them rest. Cheaper Cubans, like Quintero or JL Piedra don't take much damage from being young compared to higher quality brands. They have more of a basic earthy tobacco taste to them imho, which can smoothen out with age.
guilow Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 I always like a young PSD4, Boli PC, or Partagas Short
waldo Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 With the VR Famoso and RASS, I usually just try one OTT and see how it goes.
Guest gorob23 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 PLPC if I could EVER get another cab cough cough;-)
Wiley Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 The answer would have to be: none. Nothing I've tried fresh so far has been good. Some have been "okay" (HdM Ep. 2, RyJ Ex. 4).
raney Posted December 12, 2005 Posted December 12, 2005 RASS, PSD4 Also, I've yet to manage aging a Sig I much longer than 3 months.
