amazing to have such a game after such a close finish to the epl. what a good season all round.

how must munich be feeling? they had every chance. and to lead in the penalties and then dip out!! it reminded me of the FA final about 5-6 years ago when the gunners beat man u on penalties. i say this as a gunners fan, the better side on the day (comprehensively better, actually) did not win. ditto today. poor old munich did everything except put the ball in the net. but good chelsea defence.

and i even felt a smidge of sympathy (just a smidge and it was over quickly) for spurs fans. that must have been excruitiating.

st tottenham's day may have been a long time coming this year (it is surely now the third thing along with death and taxes) but you'd have to think that this might make it tough to keep all the players they want. i reckon that at the very least, when this happens, the two sides should have a playoff for that fourth spot.

Exiting finale.

Don't think Chelsea deserved it on the day, but on the other hand, Bayern should have taken their chances.

Very difficult day for a Spurs fan. Not that we would be favorites to lift the European Cup, but to possibly lose Bale, Adebayor, and Modric because of this is horrible.

Bayern were a joke frankly. Yes. Many chances. Embarassing finishing. Robben and Gomez should be particularly gutted.

Chelsea's defending was ok I guess though this should have been 3-0 to Bayern.

Oh well. I like Drogba. Good on him. Congrats Chelsea supporters!

I couldn't be more pleased for them.I was texting a Chelsea fan friend all through the game and to me,right from the start,it had the feeling of it been one of those nights where it'd had almost been pre-ordained that it was their time.Even when Bayern scored so late on I still felt it,very strange and inexplicable. Also speaking as an Arsenal fan the added bonus of course was the knock on effect for Tottenham :D Although, being honest, that's not fair because I don't think Arsenal really justified their 3rd place, but they say the table doesn't lie come season's end so what do I know?.Now just have to endure the annual summer agony of watching them try to stop the best player from leaving,RVP this year.

it is a bonus, even if not a particularly just one. the game did have that effect. even tho chelsea had not looked like scoring, you felt they might. then the penalty in extra time, then getting ahead in the penalties and losing. you couldn't make it up.

given the gunners dismal start, the injuries, the player losses, and to be so far behind spurs and then down 2-0 in their game facing a deficit of 13 points, you have to admire them getting that spot - even if partly due to spurs imploding. but then i wonder if at least some of that can be put down to the pressure the gunners put on them in chasing them down. we were lucky sneaking into 3rd.

doubt we'll be so lucky with rvp. i gather the early talks have not gone well.

I hear the same, sadly. It all gets to wear you down a bit though doesn't it?.Vieira,Fabregas and now RVP.It always seems that while everyone else is strengthening Arsenal have to fight tooth and nail to stop people walking out the door. We're constantly told that it's a well run business,in the black etc etc and that's all great. But I really will worry if RVP is gone this summer and not replaced because where would we have ended up this season without his goals?.But that comeback from 0-2 down to Tottenham was a very good day,yes indeed! :ok:

Neutral on the match, I dislike Robben but he played his socks off, didn't stop running the whole game. I'm caught in two minds really, I really like Drogba he's probably been the best striker in the EPL for years now. But I felt just as sick watching Terry and Cole with that CL trophy as I did watching Tevez lift the PL trophy.

At least Ribery didn't get his mits on the trophy I guess :D:thumbsup:

I thought Robben had a poor game. Prancing around. Taking foolish shots from long-range. I am a Dutch supporter but he can be quite annoying sometimes. I think he, Ribery, and Gomez really need to question how they let this cup get away.

Bayern had this air of entitlement that makes me a bit happy they lost. Over-celebrating the Müller goal. More importantly, not efficiently putting down a team that they could have dominated.

Still bitter Spurs supporter.

i think that comment re those guys letting the cup escape is spot on. they should give back their pay packets and if i was a bayern fan, i'd be a very very grumpy one.

not sure the celebration. these days, you just expect the carry-on. saw a bunch of school kids playing volleyball. celebrated every point with hugs and high fives - as though they just won the world cup. ridiculous. had anyone hugged me in those circumstances, at school, they'd have got belted. and i'd have expected the reverse as well. i thought that bayern were simply so relieved to score a goal after all that crap that they celebrated accordingly. i'd actually been thinking, just before hte goal, that a goal to bayern might be the best thing for both sides. bayern desparately needed one after all their attack and chelsea seemed rooted in defence and had no intention of attacking - a goal meant that they had no option.

as for the terry/tevez comments, take some solice in knowing that players like that, who could have been remembered as icons of the sport, will now be always thought of as the grubs they have shown that are. trophies and cash won't ever wipe away the stain.

Agree with a lot of what has been said. Bayern had a bad day. I didn't think Robben and Gomez had a very good day at all. And losing Ribery didn't help. They weren't as sharp as they usually are and didn't take their chances. Simply Bayern have only themselves to blame for losing this one. It must be hard to be a Bayern fan right now. Hats off though to Drogba and also to Peter Cec who had a great day in net and game up big for Chelsea.

I shed tears of joy. I was not expecting chelsea to beat bayern. Robben played very selfishly. Bayern dominated the first half. But in the end that's why the match is played on the pitch. I am elated for Drogba. He's been chelsea's top performer for years and he is a physical specimen. I pray that we sign him back next season.

Very pleased that chelsea finally has a champions league trophy.

What was wrong with Ashley Cole celebrating the European Cup win? I'm not a big fan of "Cashley" as a person but as a footballer he is imminence and quite probably the best left back there is right now. He had a barnstorming game and he is one of the few awesome penalty takers we have (we as an England supporter) - great penner under considerable pressure.

Whereas with JT I 100% agree with you. He was celebrating as if he was an equal partner in having won the CL and he described it as the best moment of his career (sickening). So artificial him changing into his shorts and pretending he was one of the soldiers who had shown complete resilience and indefatigablity (is that a word?) in overcoming a superior side through sheer will-power, self belief and an almost (dare I say) German stubborness(?)!

JT might be Mr Chelsea and one of their greats but he is also such an idiot off the pitch (and on it if you ask Anton Ferdinand or against Barca). Just my £0.02.

Being good at sports doesn't equal out being a nasty piece of work. Apparently Robert Mugabe is a dab hand in goal but I still wouldn't enjoy watching him win a trophy.

With the greatest respect, I don't think Ashley Cole deserves to be compared with Robert Mugabe! Ashley might be a greedy money grabbing love rat but then aren't so many footballers? I could understand more if you were referring to Ryan Giggs mind you, but come on, is Cashley really so bad? Perhaps, following your logic, you compare Rooney to murdering dictators too?

I could go into real detail about why I dislike him but to save time I can do some maths:

Nasty person + Sports Does_Not_Equal_mini.png Good person deserving of praise.

Worrying about the private lives of athletes/celebrities

=

Complete waste of time

I find it much easier to focus my analysis on what happens on the field/pitch.... most athletes are self-centered knobs....

Cole and Drogba played well. Hats off to them. Robben and Gomez did not. Piss off to them. :jester:

It's actually impossible to avoid the private lives of sports players in this country. I don't buy newspapers because of the moronic tripe in them nowadays but still mainline news reports when a footballer shoots someone with an air rifle/gets a speeding offence/rapes a girl inbetween actual world changing news. :thumbsdwn:
