Mother's Day is coming up.

My mother has always been the glue that kept our family together. Being the only female in our family of 5 (including my father, and my two other brothers) it was hard on her. She worked 12 hour days, 6 days a week. She would come home every night at 8pm and cooked for us, washed our dishes, washed and ironed our clothes, did homework with us, made our breakfast in the morning and lunches for the day, did homework with us, etc. She was the bread winner, and she taught us morals and how to be good people. I remember us having to clean on her day off and, shamefully, I remember as a dumb ass kid saying to one of my aunts that I hated when my mother was off because we had to clean that day. What a selfish son of a *****.

Now, as a husband and father, I put my domestic work in and help out my wife (who is a fabulous mother to my children) and teach them the importance of helping our family amongst the other obligations in life.

To date, she is very generous to my children, giving them food/snacks/money whenever we leave her house. I ask her why, and she says it's because she loves us.

I love you mom, and without you, I wouldn't be the person I am today.

My Mom? Lotsa love, she helped me become the man I am today, absolutely thank her and my Dad for everything they gave to me and instilled in me. My Mom gave so much of herself for my brother and Dad and I to have the lives that we've had. I'm eternally grateful to her, no matter how much we may occasionally have our differences (that's what strong-headed mothers and sons sometimes do!) LOL.

But, don't forget one thing either lads....

It's not just our direct Mothers....

But it's also a day of thanks for our spouses also, who are also Moms.

I can't say enough good things about my wife. My best friend, so similar to me, but so different that it equals me up as well. She's a full time nurse, now also running a household in my absence while I'm back and forth on base at the academy, two children (3 3/4 year old son, and a 3-month old daughter), caring for an infant in the midst of all this with me away and with her work, and NOW ALSO, for the last 8 months, back to school part time to one-up her university degree and be able to advance further at work, as well as us still both continuing to give time to our volunteer work in SAR.

That woman has tons on her plate, and still does it all with a smile, and is courteous and helpful in every way to me whenever I come home to the new chaos that is hers to control in my absence. An amazing women, that's more and more beautiful by every day that she handles all this with a smile on her face and a warm embrace for me whenever I come home.

My Mom was similar to this in her day, albeit my Dad didn't serve in the Forces or policing, so a bit different there. But it's women like these that leave such a high standard for us as sons/husbands for us to equal their commitment and determination.

I'm a very lucky and grateful man, to all the women in my life. I hope they all thoroughly enjoy their special weekend of thanks.

Cheers ladies!!!
