Rushman Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Forgive me if this has been covered. I'm mobile and can't search adequately now. What "substance" do some NC manufacturers apply to make their wrappers appear so oily. I've heard a thick coffee liquid application is brushed on. Saw one today that you could literally wipe off a brown stain onto a napkin or the like. Thoughts --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.630119,-87.069781
Diamondog Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 tpically a dye...I haven't researched it much but I've heard rocky patel for one is guilty of this...I watched a video on it, maybe youtube can't remember but its out there...the video was exacty that different cigars wiped with paper towel
Bunner Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 I've had the same results when wiping down a crappy nc and a premium nc. The (kind of) crappy was a rocky Patel and the premium a af anejo. They may or may not dye... Its all hearsay.
Colt45 Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 A little mineral oil goes a long way. I wouldn't put it past any manufacturer - or for that matter, unscrupulous merchants.
ramon_cojones Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 Found this little gem @1:04 "Like many other cubans I've had over the past few years this is almost un-smokable, almost completely plugged."
Ginseng Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 A little mineral oil goes a long way. I wouldn't put it past any manufacturer - or for that matter, unscrupulous merchants. A few years ago, I spoke with a fellow who was in the NC cigar business. General manager or something like that. He told me rather matter-of-factly that mineral oil and a bit of dye were not at all unusual treatments. Wilkey
