Nino Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I'm going now to my exercise room to listen to some old vinyl on my Pioneer PL-55 turn table through my Sansui amp and JBL L36s while I work my stair machine. How's that for making use of the old stereo equipment. I knew immediately what that adapter was. I guess I'm old. ---Sam Sansui, long time no hear that name ( or Technics, Revox, Kenwood etc ) brings back memories, thanks. My set up is a Rega Planar 3 turntable, a A&R Cambridge A60 Amp and Wharfedale speakers - all UK made from the mid 80's and still going strong. Oh, I do remember buying one of the very first Sony Walkman model in Dubai ( too expensive in Europe and not enough to go around ), guess serial number 12 thousand or so, and being so proud wearing it I almost got rolled over by a bus :-)) Still have a Sony Walkman Professional ( the bugger was almost 500 € back then ) for my last cassettes BTW : Will be 60 next year
canadianbeaver Posted April 10, 2012 Author Posted April 10, 2012 Had no idea what that was but it would make a great conversation piece as a coaster. I love the sound of vinyl but I try to keep my expensive hobbies to a minimum. Will a rocks glass fit on it? Unfortunately the little sweetie is about 1.5" in diameter... so only a little scotch glass will fit. Hmmmmmm....

PigFish Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 This is a child proof Shuriken. Now that the world is a safer place where there will be no smoking, the maximum rate of travel will be 3.8 mph, matches are banned along with the animal control chain, your local government has decided that the martial arts are out of compliance by using any ancient tools with sharp edges. This is the Ninja tool for the modern martial artist, safe on all surfaces for all children of the State, regardless of age!!! -the Pig
PigFish Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Lisa, you should have included another option in your poll - "GI Joe action figure's ninja throwing star." I used those 45 inserts quite a bit for that! LOL. Ahhhhh, good old 45's and 78's. Oh my God!!! How twisted minds think alike!!! Posted above before reading this post! -LOL

Ken Gargett Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Funny : just back from the pharmacy cigar evening - we had this question for 45 and younger ... : soon as i saw it, knew exactly what you meant.
Michel1968 Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Always a tricky moment when the casette deck had 'eaten' the tape and you were stuck with 10 mtrs of tape coming out of the housing with no pencil around...
Fuzz Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Kids these days just don't know what they missed out on. The walkman was still the main music player when I was in high school (the Sony Discman was waaay to expensive and bulky). I remember sitting in class twirling a tape on a pencil or Bic pen if your walkman didn't have a fast forward or rewind button. And bugger if you had a 90 or 120 minute tape! Anyone remember what these are (they do the exact same thing):

Are they a. devices to pierce the spaces between your goth boyfriend's fingers b. morse code communication devices c. staplers for really anal retentive d. single hole punch... long shot

I vaguely remember our first computer when I was in the middle of grade school (Commodore 64), and I don't think it's from that computer line. But I think I remember something like this being used for punching patterns of characters onto cards, and then fed into the computer, for some form of BASIC-language data entry, before most computers had keyboards and floppy-disc drives. Something like that. Just a guess, anywho....
PigFish Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 ... while we are discussing the dear departed, what are these? -the Pig
CanuckSARTech Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Geeesh, those almost look like Superiores (CG format), but without the 2nd band.
jazzbass Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 If someone is asking me what one of those things are, then I have to start hanging out with older people.
Fuzz Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 The answer people is... well, it 's not exactly D) a single hole punch... but it is close enough. They weren't called hole punchers and were specifically made to cut out a square or rectangular shape. Can anyone guess why?

Those punchers were used to make your papers unique to you! B..They were used by anal retentive teachers to create a special key for tests they could lay ove the answer sheet to see the answers. C.. They were the beginning of all these DAMN punch cards that everyone is giving you left and right to patronize their store!!! Unique punches for different days/weeks/months/stores??? Just guessing though!
Fuzz Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Nothing to do with diaries, test keys or punch cards. They were in use from the mid to late 80's, and most nerds had a few of these (on their desk, in their bag, etc) I know I had 3 and always carried one around in my school bag. Surprisingly enough, they are back in use with the retro/nostalgia crowd. Here's a pic of what it cut out...
Fuzz Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 So.....????? Oh well, I would have thought my buddy Jase would chime in since I know he had at least one of these. I'm pretty sure most of you guys and gals older than 30 woould've used one of these at least once in your life. Okay, here it is..... It is a floppy disk notcher!
