Bolismoker Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 I'm curious if there are other FOH members that are home coffee roasters? I've been roasting for about 10 years now, and find that it is a perfect companion to Habanos. I'm very big on single origin coffees. My current favorites are coming from; Costa Rica, Yemen, Bolivia, and of course the islands. I find that coffee is very simalar to cigars in that where and how the beans were grown makes all the difference, even within similar locations, some fincas produce much better beans than others. So anyone else share this obsession, or am I alone?
Hemsworth Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 You're not alone. I've been roasting for two or three years now. I started out with a hot air popcorn maker and now have an iRoast2. I couldn't tell you what my favorites are. I generally just browse through whatever is new and try two or three types. I haven't kept any records of what I have tried. I just enjoy sampling the beans when roasted at the different stages to experience what each bean has to offer.

PigFish Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Have not done much lately. I love Yirgacheffe and Sidamo and like to blend for a fuller flavor. One of these days I will buy a drum roaster and likely start up again. I don't really like roasting a few ounces at a time and while I love the taste, the roasting is a chore. I have to roast daily to keep up with consumption and that can be tedious. -Piggy
gmoney Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I am not currently a home roaster, although I have given it much thought. I just can't seem to break away from the simply, easy luxury of the nespresso system.
Guest robustog Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 I roast in a Popcorn Popper, although i'm looking at a Behmor or a HotTop. I do sometimes use an aeropress but my daily is shots using a vario grinder and a mini vivaldi. I mostly get greens from Sweet Maria's. I have always ordered blends and have not tried roasting any SOs for Espresso. I have for drip though.

Maybe I can send some sticks as a trade...
Bolismoker Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 I'd be happy to share, no need to send anything. PM your address and I'll get a sample out to you after I roast for the week on Sunday.
mk05 Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 i dont drink coffee too much but i love the smell of it. we have a coffeeshop in our lobby that exclusively brews terroir coffee, which tastes like rocket fuel. Specifically an iced espresso drinker but I would love to try something that you like.
baragh Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I roast with a popcorn popper from time to time, but I find it just roasts way too quick to give the depth of flavour I want. I've been weighing up getting a Behmor for a couple years now, yet to pull the trigger...
