CanuckSARTech Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 RASCC SCdLH Principe PSD4 Trinidad Reyes Party Shorts PL Montecarlos All of these are from 3-11 to 7-11 RASCC - within the first 6 months, ROT-table/custom-roll flavourful sometimes. Then, they go sick and need a long rest. Usually, 3 years minimum, but a full 5 make them wonderful. SCdLH Principe - its been ages since I've had one, so can't say, but I think those I've tried have had two years on them. PSD4 - with the right box, these smoke amazingly well after only 6 months, but most boxes are awesome with 1 to 2 years on them. Trinidad Reyes - one year. Party Shorts - one year. PL Montecarlos - just getting into these, but 6 months minimum to start, and two years seems to be perfect.
Bolismoker Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 My general rule of thumb is smoke them within the first 6 months or wait 3 years. I find that with most maracas somewhere in the 3-5 year range makes 'em good then the longer I can wait the better they get. I have the end of a box of RASS from '98 that are nearly a religious experience every time I smoke one now. I'll be heartbroken when they are finally all gone.
fishinguitarman Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 6 months from the date on the box or 6 months after you get 'em?
CanuckSARTech Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 6 months from the date on the box or 6 months after you get 'em? Box date. That's generally what everyone goes by, IMO.
Dbone Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I'd smoke a few of each box to see, some may be "good" enough to smoke now. In my experience, there are only a few cigars which need age to be enjoyed. Mostly, age will evolve the flavors, but not necessary make them any better.
jazzbass Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 6 months in your own humidor is always a good place to start. I find that if you can wait patiently for 6 months, then you can probably wait another 6 if you feel they need more time.
