Hohenthal Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hi everybody, as most of the Gloria Cubana have disappeared already, (not to mention the hurtful deletion of Partagas Connaisseur 1, 2 and 3) MdO #4 is one of the last remaining Panetelas. Please share your experiences with these, thank you! Alex
ksblazer Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Haven't tried any of the recent ones. Seems like they don't produce a lot of them and when they do produce some they go pretty quick. I've wondered at times if this cigar will end up on the cut list sometime soon. I hope not, these and the MDO.1's were my favorites in the LGC line up.
smokinpeace Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I just purchased some from Nov '10. I have only smoked one but they have a lot of promise for young LGC. This is a marca that just needs a lot of time to reach their potential but they are smoking great for a young cigar. If you are thinking about snagging some, I would say fire away. There are some Med. No 2's out there too from '11. Just purchased a box but they have not arrived.
Lotusguy Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Never had one newer than 2006 and liked them a lot but they did taste extremely similar to the MdO #3 for me. Will pick up a box soon to complete my LGC collection
Michel1968 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 My box is from 2011 but haven't tried one yet. Older ones I had (2002) were a delight and indeed quite simular to the #3 being more 'clean' on tobacco taste...
rfenst Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I really like LGC and was pissed when Tainos and No. 2 were reportedly discontinued. I found a few boxes of Tainos to put away and have been on the hunt for No. 2 for a long time now. Just located a box for typical retail price (not US$400-600) There were some other 5+ year aged boxes of Nos. 1, 3 or 4 available for a long time and it just isn't appear they were moving. But, they all disappeared about 2-3 months ago. I think someone told me they are being offered for private sale at ridiculous prices... Prez, Can you order LGC for us and, if so, which ones (and how much)??
greenpimp Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I thought these were d/c'd a few years ago? I would be interested in more recent ones if you can get them, Rob! I bought as many as I could find, and my last box is from 01 and sitting in my FOH locker... one of my favorites.
carnivalhobo Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I have a recent production box of 4's the only one I've tried was on NYE after several drinks and other cigars, at the time it was nothing but pleasant. The 2001 box of #1's is outstanding now.
Hohenthal Posted March 14, 2012 Author Posted March 14, 2012 Just had an example of POL JAN 11 tonight: cocoa, fruit, a touch of liquorice now and then, after the half way point some of that Partagas-like green capsicum, coffee, toasted bread, more fruit - beautiful purity to the flavours, hugely enjoyable, 91/92 Cheers, Alex
CaptainQuintero Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 All LGC have completely vanished in the UK apart from our RE version
HydroRaven Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 So I see a few people talking about the medaille d'or 3 and 4. Which one would be a better buy?
Lotusguy Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 So I see a few people talking about the medaille d'or 3 and 4. Which one would be a better buy? Well, given that the #3 has been discontinued a while now and is HTF, your only bet is the #4 which is still made (albeit sparingly). I find them to be very similar in taste. The #3 is a bit thinner so it has the edge for me.
