While I sometimes found him guilty of overacting.....he nailed his role to perfection.

A US animal sanctuary says Cheetah the chimpanzee from the Tarzan movies of the early 1930s has died at age 80.

The Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Florida announced that Cheetah had died on December 24 of kidney failure.

Sanctuary outreach director Debbie Cobb on Tuesday told The Tampa Tribune that Cheetah was outgoing, loved finger painting and liked to see people laugh.

She said he seemed to be tuned into human feelings.

Cheetah was the comic relief in the Tarzan series starring American Olympic gold medal swimmer Johnny Weissmuller.

Cobb says Cheetah came to the sanctuary from Weissmuller's estate sometime around 1960.

Cobb says Cheetah wasn't a troublemaker. Still, sanctuary volunteer Ron Priest says that when the chimp didn't like what was going on, he would throw faeces.

Sad but he did live a long life.

Sad but he did live a long life.

Anyway, we still have Tom Cruise.

How dare you compare the two.....that chimp could act.

The difference between Cheetah and Tom Cruise is that Cheetah would only occasionally throw feces

Every time Tom opens his mouth it flies all over the place.

my wife informed me that she read somewhere that every afternoon he would watch old Tarzan episodes and smoke a cigar!

Yes I had heard the part about him smoking cigars.

It's funny how often you hear of guys who smoke cigars living longer lives.

I need to stop now because I can't afford to live that long. :thumbsdwn:

Man...that Chimp knew how to live.

One thing Red Buttons (another great comedic actor for those unfamiliar) said, "Cheetah would say to Jane, 'Jane, now that Tarzan's away let me show why they call me Cheeter'"! :sneaky:
