Nino Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Hi, a very quick review on the Sancho Panza Quijote, the Spanish Regional Edition, that I smoked yesterday fresh from the box. It is a very nice and large vitola at 49x194, nice wrapper, beautiful presentation – that is just about all positive I can say about it. The cigar smoked well, burn, draw and ash were perfect but there was absolutely no aroma, intensity or anything remarkable about it. About as boring as a Dominican stogie, flat, no changes between the thirds, no hints of anything, a cigar that will not improve with time as there is no content to begin with. A waste at 15 €. Hopefully I smoked a sample that was off – terrible thought if all the boxes are like this one … Nino

However, as you are very experienced smoker, have you noticed or could this be the "vacuum period" described by MRN that these cigars are suffering?

Nino Posted December 16, 2011 Author Posted December 16, 2011 Hm, afraid I am not familiar with any "vacuum" period ( except the daily vacuum walk-by by my wife :-)) ), and no, it was not the sick period either. It was pure and simple an undelivering cigar with no content and far less potential - which I hope will be restricted to that single stick. I am not really much into reviews but this particular stick was "worth" the short write up - BTW my 2-3 co-smokers all agreed on the little substance of the cigar. On the other hand, the Bolivar Bel. Fino '02 and the Bolivar Royal Corona from '03 I smoked before and after the Sancho were deliciously fine cigars ... so no palate problems either

Chris, they are not ( I hope ) - the German RE of Sancho Panza, the "Escuderos" is a very fine cigar full of aroma and taste. I smoked it in Germany and took some 5-6 sticks with me to Cuba for friends there and it's an absolutely great and tasty cigar while not much older than the Quijotes are. Great to read your Andorra piece, work of art !! Safe sailing !

I would love to hear any updates when you get a chance to try another stick or two. Hopefully it was just a bad stick! Cheers!

I was in Spain when they were first released and I think they are fine ( or the German Sancho RE is too good maybe?) I used to love all the Spanish RE ( the Robiana Maestro and Punch been my favourite) and the RA, Bolivar 109 didn't let me down. I am a little disappointed to see the review because I still have a intact box left in my humidor. Maybe I will give my last single of this cigar a try and post my thoughts later. I had a very high expectation as they are the DC size and the first Sancho Panza RE that came out. Sigh!

ChanceSchmerr Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I'm smoking a second one of these, found in the "wetlands" of Sautters here in London. A little nicer than a few years ago, but still has this "off" taste that really puts me off. I don't know what happened here but i will likely avoid these in Spain if i find em. Bleccch. Side note - the German Sancho Panza REs are as good as these are not - Nino is bang on with that, IMO
