Smoke time: 1 hour+

Pre-light: Very nice medium-brown wrapper with no major vains.

Paired with diet Pepsi. Slight resistance to the draw. Hint of sweetness.

Start: Very mellow. No spice at all. Light body. Hints of fruit from cold draw are there.

First third: Smooth and mellow. Hints of black cherry over a base of plain high-quality tobacco. Body remains light. Uneventful. Probably the lightest RyJ I have had so far. More stewed cherries but overall just very (too?) mellow. Where is the ligero??? Puffing fairly fast in order to try and get a little more oomph… Could this be the lightest cigar I ever had? I seriously think I could inhale this stick and not get sick. More stewed fruit – it’s definitely a RyJ. Burn is very straight. It’s a pleasant cigar so far, but it has no kick whatsoever. A Monte Open is a powerhouse compared to this. Getting sweeter. This thing is going to put me to sleep. Unless something starts happening, I won’t need to talk about the 2nd and 3rd thirds…

2nd third: A bit more toasted tobacco notes coming in. First ash at beginning of this third. Picks up a little in strength but still firmly in the light body category. Really not much more to say – nicely toasted tobacco and stewed fruit all the way. Burn needs to be corrected halfway through this third.

Last third: Ashed one more time. Do I detect a little spice? Yes, a hint. Otherwise, more of the same with a smidge more strength. Mostly toasted tobacco and some stewed fruit.Yawn.

Final conclusion: In the words of Douglas Adams: Mostly harmless. Well-made, high quality cigar, but I was left wanting more power and evolution. It was pretty flat. Sorry to say that this cigar rated only 86 in my book. This is an LE from 2004 – maybe they are simply over the hill already after 8 years? On a positive note, it was better than 90% of all the RyJ Churchills I ever had.

Nice review, thanks for sharing.

I had a few of these back in 2008 or so, and I remember liking them decently enough, but not enough to really want to get a box or two. Your thoughts and notes echo a bit of what I remember, I think.

Thanks again for sharing. Cheers.

Thanks for the review as you've saved me from the box purchase I was considering. I am enjoying the RyJ 07 Escudos as they are smoking very nicely for me right now.

Yup sounds like the hermosa. Do you recall any sweetness? That's the memorable aspect of that cigar for me. Like a monte 2
