winelover Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 I once had a box of OIK 2004 Coloniales and I have always wondered how they might have aged had I not smoked them all within 12months. Has anyone had any of the Trini range with 5 years plus on it? I am not really so interested on hearing about the fundadores unless post 2006 as I am really wondering about the reyes/coloniales and RE. In general I am wondering how the Trini line ages. I really hope someone has experience as I am considering getting some to lay down. Thanks
warren516 Posted November 1, 2011 Posted November 1, 2011 Back for my birthday in September, one of my buddies found a 5 pack of Coloniales there were 8 year old. I have to say it was my 2nd Cuban that I've smoked that was aged. It was amazing. We both said, aging is where it's at.

Thanks I have a 2008 box of Coloniales which are much too ferocious to smoke and feel like they need at least another 3 or 4 years. My experience of Robusto Extras (only one box) has been that they are strong while young too, which suggests aging potential. Both the Robusto T and Reyes are very approachable while young though, so there seems to be some variation across the marca. My favourite is the Robusto T and since it's discontinued, that's the one I'd buy.

Hohenthal Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Anything in a varnished box can go on for a very, very long time. Enjoy!
frenchkiwi Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 i have 2 left in a 5 pack of Trinidad Coloniales from OIK ABR 04. They are too strong packed full of tannins, just smoked one the other day when i came upon it at the bottom of a humidor. They feel like they have legs, loooong legs, might have to wait a couple more years. A bit complicated with trinidads i have had plenty of 3-4yr old reyes that are twice as strong as when young but jam packed full of flavour... that's my humble experience anyways!
winelover Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 I smoked 2 coloniales back in the spring from a 5 pack of unknown box code. They literally told me to f*** right off for waking me up to early! So strong they made me feel queasy even after dinner. Still enjoyed it but wondering just how long they need to come round to their optimum.
winelover Posted November 2, 2011 Author Posted November 2, 2011 Thanks for the replies so far. I smoked a coloniales back in the spring from a 5 pack of unknown box code. warren516 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 8 years old? The Coloniales was released in 2004… Well it was somewhat of a guess on his part, since he forgot that he even had them in his humidor. He remembers buying them on vacation quite a few years ago. I was guessing 8 because he said that he questioned the clerk because the band was the new style and he had never seen it before. So I looked at Trevor's sight and saw the new band came into production in 2003. I should have looked further to check when they came into production. All I know is that it was a great cigar to smoke.
Skitalets Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Incorrect. I have 8 boxes from MKO OCT03 and another 6 from MKO DIC03. I believe you're both right. Trevor's website says they were released in 2004, but presumably some of those cigars would/could have been rolled and boxed in 2003 for release the next year.

Never mind that - did you realize he has FOURTEEN boxes?????
