Hohenthal Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 A decade of seeing so many deletions, more than one question comes to mind. Discussing marketing strategies to keep non-main-stream cigars alive, would be obvious but that's another matter. For once suppose, you are in charge of HSA. Sales numbers of a certain cigar (that is available in both dress boxes of 25 and 50's cabs) drop. Trimming the portfolio seemes the only way out - what would you decide?
negncic Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I would delete the pinheads that were in charge of the previous deletions.
Hohenthal Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 I would delete the pinheads that were in charge of the previous deletions. I get your point, but just assume you could, in longer terms, avoid the total deletion of a given cigar by taking the right action. What would you decide?
Colt45 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 If people weren't buying a cigar that was packaged in a twenty five count dress box, I'm not sure they'd start buying them simply because the packaging changed to a SLB - unless they really hated dress boxes for some reason, But I'd guess that most cigar smokers buy for what's in the box versus the box itself. Given the scenario you've presented, I'm not sure what I'd do.
Lotusguy Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I don't like box press and 50 cabs can get a bit pricey, especially if you just want to try out something new, so I voted SLB 25.
Skitalets Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I wish it were economical for HSA to keep both options for more cigars. I enjoy box pressed cigars, and the form factor of a dress box is different from a SLB as well. So I can fit more stuff in the coolidor if I have a mix of dress boxes and SLBs vs. having all of one or the other.
kmagurk Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 with wife & kids to feed it's tough for me to buy SLB 50's . I also don't mind dress boxes, but I would go with the SLB 25 if I had a choice
bassman Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 I think BBFs still come in cabs & DBs, both of 25. Wonder which sells more? And SLR DCs can ONLY be purchased in cabs of 50. Odd marketing for such a large cigar.
Hohenthal Posted October 27, 2011 Author Posted October 27, 2011 I think BBFs still come in cabs & DBs, both of 25. Wonder which sells more? Exactly my angle.
MrGlass Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I'd keep the dress box and drop the 50 cab. A cab 50 can be a pricey investment and is likely to put some off. As for going with the dress box rather than the cab 25, surely having the packaging look prettier can't hurt?
thechenman Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 I'd drop dress boxes and cabs of 25, and go with cabs of 50.
