Hey everyone,

Just looking for some feedback on 99/01 Bolivars... I know a lot of cigars in this period had some quality control issues such as being plugged etc, but I haven't heard much feedback on Boli's from these years. Does anyone have feedback on BBF's or CE's from these years?

Thanks much!

IME I would not spend $ on anything from late 99 to 2001, it's been a rule of mine and more than a few BOTL's out there. Having said that I have had the opportunity to sample CE's, lonsdales and Inmensas from this period and all were either not smokable or paled in comparison to what I have found in a truly "ON" BOLI...JMO

I wouldn't go for the BBFs as you ca find some great boxes post 06.

As for the CEs, depends on whether you can find any from later production, as these have been discontinued in 2011. I splurged on 5 boxes from 00-01 as I personally had no choice. I checked them for construction issues before purchase but you still never know. However, the couple of cigars I smoked to date are truly representative of the CE, one of my all time favourites; classic Boli flavor, but even bolder and darker if you can imagine:-)

Second that.

Any 99, 00 or 01 cigar - regardless of the marque - was a more than worrying experience to me.

Some still full of Ammonia after all those years :surprised:.

I agree that some 99-01 stock has some construction issues, but to write them off across the board is unwise. There are some very good cigars from that time period. You just need to pick and choose. In my experience, the Bolivar CE and petit corona have been quite good. If you like aged sticks you would probably be pleased, I know I was.

I would not categorically dismiss '99 - '01 sticks but I would make sure I can inspect them thoroughly.

I've had '99 corona extras and, recently, belicoso finos from '01. They've been fantastic. I haven't had many, maybe 5 of each, but no construction issue with those ones. I know there was a lot of rubbish put out in that era but if I was finding '99 - '01 Bolivars at a reasonable price I'd be all over them.

I've just remembered I have about 6 left of a box of Royal Coronas, ECA mar 01. I haven't smoked one of those in a couple of years but they were also very good. I was in a position to see all of those cigars before I bought them.
