Recently dove into this box received from the Czar a few weeks back. Figured this was a good time to post a review...

San Cristobal de la Habana - LA PUNTA

Box code: EMA MAR 06

Length: 140

RG: 52

Format: Torpedo

Construction is beautiful goldish brown wrapper. Generally consistency to finger press...maybe a soft spot or two detected. Aroma at cold is subdued but a distinct tobacco twang imparted on lips during cold draw - which is easy.

As a huge fan of the El Principe, Mercaderes, and Officios I was quite excited to try this vitola of a marca that always delivers. Wow was I in for a surprise - not necessarily a good or bad one, just a surprise. The La Punta comes out of the gate roaring. To me it's like the first third is what the last third is like on a solid Party short. Tons of spice and leather dominate. I'm wondering if the slight breeze in my garage is making this thing burn hot and harsh so close the door half way and retreat to the rear of the garage. So far I'm fairly captivated by how much this differs from other San Cristobals. Second third some wood starts coming through but it's still dominated by leather / spice. Burn is steady with no runs/canoeing. Ash holds just under 1" but sometimes looses form. Final third and it's leather and woody flavours to the finish line. Total burn time is 75 minutes.

Good, but not great. Hoping with some rest in the humi the box evolves/chills out a little bit. If compared to the other torpedo's currently in my humidor like the Bolivar Belicosos Finos or Upmann #2, I'd take the Bolivar or Upmann hands down at this point.

Have a couple of boxes of La Puntas and would normally categorize them as a medium cigar at most. I usually get nutty almond notes that on the best I have had take on a marzipan element...
