NweakO Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hello there everyone, I been smoking 1-2 sticks the past month and everything was going just fine until I lit a partagas shorts 4 days ago. Now I have tried them before and am quite used to them, but this one was a little different...it was very salty and harsh (too young I guess?). Anyways, ever since that smoke I have been experiencing a slight sore throat, a slight burn on the tip of my tongue and little numbness on the back of my palate. The closest feeling I could describe it to is after eating salt vinegar chips. I have not smoked anything for 4 days, well I have only taken a few puffs just to see if I am getting any better but it is still there. What to do? I did the salt water thing and the sore throat is pretty much gone and my gf forced me to take ginger tea which I hate haha, The only thing that is still there is the slight numbness on the palate area and right side of my tongue. As I am typing I am smoking a magnum 46, and let me tell you it is bland as hell I can only feel the creaminess. I have been smoking for 4 years and this is the first time it happened. Is this normal? Should I lay off for a week or two? What to do? thank you

It would be best if you'd just distribute them amongst all your friends here on FOH (I couldn't possibly test them all myself) and we can do empirical research on your behalf. We'll send back all the good sticks when we're done. On a more serious note, it sounds like you might have had a cold or some other virus get to you. That can definitely throw off your sense of taste and smell and nothing seems quite right for a while. I had a cold last month and most of the cigars were a little bland during that period. I stopped smoking the good stuff for a week and then everything was back to normal.
TonyV Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Had the same problem a few weeks back. caught a cold or virus, everything tasted very bland. Then mother nature took over with about ten days of rain,so no smoking. When the sun came back so did the flavors.. I suggest a week to ten days of no smoking. Oh by the way, my consultation bill will be in the mail..
PigFish Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Could be you, could be the cigars, no one knows. I use this as an opportunity to cleanse my palate and usually open a new box of cigars or try something I have not smoked in a while. I go through these bouts now and again myself if I smoke a lot. It is also another opportunity to realize how inconsistent the products that we smoke really are, and blame something else on H SA, Tabacuba... et al. -LOL -Piggy

I fully expect to open up the news and find a picture of you in a small rubber raft landing in the Bay of Pigs in a valiant attempt to lead a revolution and take over H SA. Good luck!
bc8436 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I've had episodes like yours before. What I do is lay off smoking for a week or two, eat a more 'bland' diet (less spicy or greasy foods) and also drink my coffee/tea at a lower temperature.
NweakO Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 Thank you all for you insights, very much appreciated. Will lay off a week or two and see where things go from there.
