DinoCop05 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I was wondering if anyone here planned on attending. It's Wednesday, November 30, at Pier 92 NYC. Could be a great opportunity to meet some members. Dino
docbp87 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 No, but I'll be at the Las Vegas Big Smoke later this month.
laficion Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 OH!! Is Marvin having a golf tournament in New York ?
DinoCop05 Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 Lucky you! I would love to be at the Vegas Big Smoke. You can only convince the wife so much... I can see it now, hey babe, you mind if I go to Vegas for a cigar show? NO!!! Lol!

I can see it now, hey babe, you mind if I go to Vegas for a cigar show? NO!!! Lol! I'm Asian so my English is not the best, but seems to me the question above is "Do you mind...?" So if she said No!!! That's fantastic.... Talk about being in the dog house for misinterpreting that with the mrs...
DinoCop05 Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 I've noticed quit a few members are from the NY Metro area. I have to say I'm pretty surprised no one is attending this event. This will be my first one, i'm pretty excited. Unfortunately, no CC. But, there will be a nice list of NC included with the admission price. Hope to see of you there!
DinoCop05 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 No, but I'll be at the Las Vegas Big Smoke later this month. So how was the big smoke Doc? BTW, GUYS THE NYC BIG SMOKE IS NOV 30. I'VE NOTICED MANY MORE MEMBERS FROM THE NY/ NJ AREA SINCE FIRST POSTING THIS. ANYONE GOING?
warren516 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 The fact that it's on a Wednesday night prevents me from going, since I would need 2 days off of work to attend. I would be coming from Washington DC. Now another get together in NY, like what was done last February when Lisa was in town would be good. I would definately travel up for a saturday herf with the NY group.
thechenman Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Being in NY, I've contemplated it, but from what others who have attended in the past have told me, it hardly seems worth it. Not to be a cigar snob here, but most of the cigars they give away, I probably wouldn't smoke. Plus I've been told that the crowds are monstrous...to the proportion that it is tough to move about freely. And the sheer number of people make it hard to get food/drink or enjoy a real conversation with those at the booths. Maybe that has changed somewhat as they have moved the venue from the Marriott to the Pier, I really don't know...but until I hear otherwise, I'd rather spend the Wednesday night with my family, hanging with my wife, playing with my daughter and helping my son with his homework. Maybe go out for a smoke on my front porch after the kids are in bed...weather permitting. Do keep us posted though on your experience. Who knows, it may help change my mind for 2012. Enjoy...

Anyhow, a HERF in ny would be awesome and a great idea. Unfortunately, I wasn't a member last year and missed that get together. I would have loved to meet everyone and Lisa, of course.

Hmmm, interesting points. I only know of one person who attends, so I guess it would be a good idea to ask. I really wouldnt enjoy and probably would be frustrated, if I had to deal with that large of a crowd the whole time. Either way, I will definitely post my experience if attend.

lemmycaution Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I've attended the Big Smoke in the past. When it was at the Marriot in Times Square. I have to say, Chenman has pretty much nailed every reason why I would never go again. Maybe the seminars in Vegas make it better, but I'd rather spend what little cigar money I have on cigars I would like to smoke.
