I was quite surprised and pleased to read an email from bundwallah advising he was going to forward money from the raffle at the Mega Herf in Toronto. I have now taken receipt of the funds and they will travel with me when I visit Nicaragua again in December.

For those of you new or unfamiliar with the feeding program please allow me to give a short rundown. Since FEB 2005 I've been working with non-profits in Nicaragua to provide school supplies and food to kids in the state of Carazo. En route to Cuba in FEB 2009 Rob spent a week with me in Nicaragua and was so moved by the poverty he began to donate a $1/ box of cigars sold. I personally carry the funds down and hand them off to our in country coordinator who distributes the food and monitors the program. The donation made by our friends in Toronto will feed approximately fifty kids once a week for three months. Muchas gracias, you gents are awesome!!

Some photos from my visit in March(taken by one of the local volunteers; a bit sketchy but not bad for never having held a camera!):

Kids with their bowls queue up for lunch but are clearly more interested in what I am opening. PEEPS! (It was Easter and who doesn't like Peeps!)

Lunch consists of rice, enough chicken for some flavor and a bit of protein and boiled plantain...

Our cook, Guillermina, also records weights of some of the younger children. I don't suppose the Peeps added much, but they loved them!post-66-0-87041400-1315521088.jpg

Again, MUCHAS MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

Wow. That just puts things in perspective doesn't it? It was our pleasure Rob. Thanks to all those who donated items and who partook in the raffle. And Rob, thanks for all the hands on work you do down there. :perfect10:

I take for granite how fortunate my family and many others are. I don't think about if and when we will eat. We don't worry about clothes or other necessity. My kids biggest worry is getting the latest and greatest before their friends do. Its hard to consider that some children may not even have food or clean water available. Its a problem and its real. Its good to see people help others simply because they can, not for any benifit in return. Its a quality we should all aspire to have and one we should instill apon our children. -Karl

Rob (freefallguy), I think that all of us in attendance were happy to hear of how much we got put together, and to the noble cause that it was supporting. When I did a few missionary trips down to the Dominican Republic back after high school, it definitely changed my perspective about a lot of things in this world, and enjoying every day to the fullest while making a positive impact on those around you.

You're welcome, from all of us that were able to give. That very small dent/pitance by us, sure goes out to help a lot of needy for quite some time. But at the same point, it doesn't feel like enough. The bigger thank you, as Frank said, goes to you for continuing to lead your mission down to Nicaragua, and to keep it in the minds and hearts of your fellow FOHers here. Very honourable. Thanks.
