ptrthgr8 Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Not much to say here... I'll let the picture do my talking. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
DaniloSilni Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 Come on...Gurkhas? Lol all joking aside, if those are the limited masters select, i used to like those.
ptrthgr8 Posted September 7, 2011 Author Posted September 7, 2011 Come on...Gurkhas? Lol all joking aside, if those are the limited masters select, i used to like those. They're actually the Grand Reserve smokes. I'll admit that Gurkhas in general aren't among my favorites, but these Grand Reserves in particular are probably in my top ten favorites... though they'll likely get edged out when I start getting more familiar with the different Habanos out there. But, really, the better part of that moment was the Louis XIII. While the cigars were quite enjoyable, in this instance they were ancillary. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
laficion Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 But, really, the better part of that moment was the Louis XIII. Great photo, Bravo For me, Next time you pour yourself a glass of that FANTASTIC Louis XIII and you want to have a NC , try a fine TATUAJE or else something with more complexity then GURKHAS . A Sir Winston or Punch DC would truly do honor to such a fine louis XIII.
thechenman Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 am I the only one who cant see the pic? Nope...I can't see it either...
ptrthgr8 Posted September 8, 2011 Author Posted September 8, 2011 Hmm... odd. The pic is showing for me on multiple computers and my cellphone.
Plato Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Lay off the guy. It coulda been a Kuba Kuba We're just teasing ya dude!
ptrthgr8 Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 We're just teasing ya dude! I know. I guess it's a good thing we weren't smoking White Owls for that pic. Besides... I figured ya'll were just jealous of my Louis XIII. Zing! Cheers, ~ Greg ~
finecigar Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Ya no offense, because the Louis XIII is a nice one, but Gurkha is the epitome of cigars overhyped by strong marketing and packaging techniques. My cigar buds and I have a phrase we use when we receive a Gurkha in the mail from any of our various cigar monthly programs, we say "damn, ya got Gurkhed!" Needless to say, I am an avid hater of Gurkhas and I mean no offense to you but with cigar experience, especially more into Cuban cigars you will find many years further that a Gurkha is a joke. Keep the Louis, though haha!
ptrthgr8 Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 ...I mean no offense to you but with cigar experience... No offense taken... but I think you've been a little on the presumptuous side. What makes you think I'm an inexperienced cigar smoker? Sure, I'm relatively new to Cubans, so I see where you're coming from there. But do you know how long I've been smoking cigars? Or do you know how often I smoke cigars? Or do you know what type of cigars I normally or frequently smoke? I'm going to go out on a limb and say you do not. I think since you pooh-pooh Gurkhas you assume that I'm some sort of cigar novice. I think that's a poor assumption. It even strikes me as being a bit poncey. Again, no offense taken. I'm a new guy here so I'm cool with everything. But for the record, it's not a matter of me being a noob when it comes to non-Cuban smokes. It's simply that I like the Gurkha Grand Reserve cigars. They're not my everyday smoke and not something of which I would buy an entire mazo, but I enjoy them from time to time. Cheers, ~ Greg ~

Really sorry and disappointed at a couple of the remarks made here in response to your beautiful post. Not everyone has such a beautiful place to start with just to smoke cigars in. Reply well done! I got your back anytime, anywhere. I have a extremely good taste that is wide and very discriminating. As my dad told me once, there is no bad job, just a wrong person for that job. Same goes for cigars, they all have their place. When I first started smoking cubans, I thought I would never go back to NCs, I was wrong. Not every single Cuban is great and I don't like having caviar every single night either or would I choose to. To add to that, I have traveled all over the world, ate in the finest restaurants and homes too boot. I appreciate more what I get now in cigars and everything else because I have a full spectrum to discriminate in. I have friends that know me and have seen me go thru so many different changes and tastes, all for the better and I also have re found so many cigars. Anyway, I think you deserve a much better welcome to FOH, so I am saying Welcome aboard and stay true to your self. Just wish I had welcomed you sooner. Btw, we are both Scorpios too. That is all, carry on.
ptrthgr8 Posted September 10, 2011 Author Posted September 10, 2011 Anyway, I think you deserve a much better welcome to FOH, so I am saying Welcome aboard and stay true to your self. Just wish I had welcomed you sooner. Thanks, man. But, really, it's all good. I have a fairly thick skin, but beyond that I absolutely recognize and appreciate that we all have different likes and dislikes and I'll never begrudge anyone for something like that. But I will take issue (however slight it may be) with folks jumping to conclusions when there's really not enough info for them to do so. Heck, even if some of my best and most longtime friends - the ones who truly know me - gave me grief for smoking a Gurkha I would simply give 'em a finger and then we'd all laugh, make a toast, and resume smoking whatever cigar we have. That's what friends do. I've no reason to not like FOH nor do I have any reason to not like anyone with whom I've interacted thus far. We all love Cuban cigars, so that's good enough for me. But I am glad to know you've got my back. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
Tarks Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 It looks like a very memorable experience! Thanks for sharing. I never understood why some people would come down on others for the type of cigars they smoke. It just doesn't make sense to me. After all, it is just a cigar at the end of the day.
Colt45 Posted September 10, 2011 Posted September 10, 2011 No doubt one man's Gurkha is another man's Cohiba and vice versa. I seriously doubt any remarks were anything more than good natured ribbing. While we do sometimes discuss cigars made all over the globe, at the end of the day, we are Friends of Habanos.
