I'm pretty patient and always hear all the rage when someone has a cigar that has been aged for that amount of time. I was looking at maybe a box of Sir Winstons, CoRo's, or lusitania's. Curious what other members think would be a candidate for long term aging... Chris

Chris Chris there are plenty of cigars that would benefit from age but there are some that transform completely with 10 years. On my list would be: HDM Des Dieux PL Petit Corona (and I would take a punt on the new Encantos). Cohiba Robusto HDM Epicure No 1 SLR Serie A Upmann Number 2. I would also take a punt on: Upmann Magnum 50 Cohiba Siglo VI

Colt45 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I don't disagree with Rob's list - he and any number of members have more breadth of knowledge than I probably ever will. But with the knowledge I have gained, I think I take a slightly different tack.... A cigar is ready when it's ready - a large part of which is highly subjective for each individual - assigning a definitive number is a bit arbitrary. I don't know if you do any weight training, but this kind of brings it to mind - once you've done enough to stimulate an adaptive response for a given muscle or group, there is no point in doing more / going further - to do so brings no benefit and will usually bring a negative result.

aavkk Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 One of my favorite aspects of this hobby is seeing a cigar evolve that I have aged myself. Your question of what to age 10 years has me asking a question of you. Do you plan on cracking the box at all before the 10 year mark? I think it would be wise to see the development of the cigar- to be able to appreciate the change for better or worse through the years. You dont really want to ask yourself "I wonder if this cigar was always this complex at the 10 year mark"? You want my recommendation, start with a large format cigar in a 50 cab presentation. Putting money aside I would have Rob and Lisa pick out a 50 cab of RA Estupendos- they are already 3 years old so you could smoke 3 a year and at the 10 year mark still have 29 left! Other suggestions would be Mag 46's, and if the 50's arent available have Rob select two great looking 25's from the same code. Seeing the evolution of the cigar, truly alive and changing is worth saving up a bit more now.
