Perhaps an oddball question:

I'm wondering if members feel a cigar shredded and smoked in a pipe will yield similar sensations to smoking the rolled cigar?

An interesting idea for an experiment Colt. I am sure that someone out there has tried this and I would be interested also to hear about the results. I do not have a pipe, however, so I can't help out in that regard.

I can donate an LGC MDo #1 with a beetle hole if someone wants to experiment. Just chop around the hole.

I've done it with clipped ends of cuban cigars and high end NCs. It tasted like a cuban cigar. Very interesting smoke. Never shredded a cigar, though.

I'm not in the know too much with pipe tobacco but I think it is usually quite moist, maybe letting the stick get around 75% before smoking it in a pipe?

Maybe a pipe smoker can help with how wet the stuff they smoke is.

I think I read somewhere that Ché use to do this with his cigar, hed smoke it to the nub, then put the nub in his pipe to finish it off...

Shredding a LGC Mdo #1 !!! Frank give it to me. Just cut the cap and patch up the hole with the cap wrapper using your glue.

Actually it's a No 2. But good idea Tom. I can donate a Partagas Black Label for this experiment instead. :P

It's pretty wet. The only problem with the cigar tobacco in a pipe is that burns a tad hotter and it doesn't last quite as long.

Though it does seem quite a bit more wet than a cigar, the optimum humidity for pipe tobacco is actually about 10-15% lower, I can't recall and exact number, but I want to say like 50-55%. To give you an idea, I have opened tins of tobacco and no special storage method, I just leave them laying out wherever, have had no problem with it being too dry though eventually it will happen.

As to the original question, I have a friend who has chopped a Cuban punch cigar up into ribbons and smoked in his pipe, he says it smokes quite hot compared to pipe tobacco. Ymmv of course.
