traded Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 The Trinidad line is probably my most consistently enjoyable line of cigars. I have long held the Trinidad Robusto Extra (T-RE) as my favorite cigar. As an aside, I think the 2007 Trinidad Ingenios might be the best EL I have ever tried (only 5 or so). I think part of Trinidads success is in the limited line they produce. What is it…like 5 vitolas? Reyes, Coloniales, Robusto T, Fundadores, and Robusto Extra with two EL’s (Ingenios of 07 and Short Robusto T of ’10). They are expensive but I think with the price, you get class and smooth creamy caramel that is readily identifiable in a Trinidad…..especially my favorite Robusto Extra. Yes, it’s fat. Yes its expensive, but give it a try. I just suggest that you wait at least 2 years or so to give the cigar time to find its self. The present specimen is from an October 2009 box from OUS. The wrappers in this box seem to be quite a bit darker than typical for the T-RE in my experience. Today’s example is enjoyable. It has many of the qualities I have come to expect from T-RE: smooth, classy, caramelly. Unfortunately, from beginning to end, there was an additional flavor of burning wood/camp fire. This is not objectionable in and of itself, however it is a bit heavy for this cigar and throws off the balance of the cigar. In the context of this cigar, it comes across as too forward. Normally, I smoke this cigar alone to relax. It’s hard to relax when the cigar talks back as this one did. Overall score 90/100. (Normally, I give the T-RE 93 or 94).
cigaraholic Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 It looks and sounds like these need more than 2 years to find themselves. I've got a box from MAY09 but haven't broken into them yet, wrappers are much lighter than your box.
tmac77 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 I love the Trini line except for the shorts. and yes another two or three years and they will hit their stride
melies Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Cheer Up friend, comments will come , I have always find the Robusto Extra, a more full bodied cigar and yes I have found that camp fire thingy you are talking about, not very pleasant for me at least. I much rather prefer the Robusto T which I find much more elegant and medium bodied. great review BTW keep them coming
nick17 Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 rely well done. I havent had much from Trinidad as they are expensive but when i have had anything from them it is amazing i will have to take your word and try one some time
celtmick1984 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Picked some up and will take your advice and put them down for a while. Thanks for the review and pics!
BonVivant Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Wonderful review of a great cigar. Thank you! For some reason it always tastes the best to me in the summer months.
Rye Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 A great review, and I have experienced a couple of T-RE with the same wood undertones. Have you tried any from this box lately to see how they've progressed?
MC4 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 How does RE compare to Robust0 T? I love Robusto T and never had the Extra. The only problem I have with robusto T is that its too short and the goodness ends too soon. If Robusto Extra is the same taste as RT, it's a perfect combination.
