Diamondog Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 As the title states here is an entry for the Cigar Review Contest, thanks Rob for putting this on! Trinidad Robusto Extra OUR Feb '08 Origin : Cuba Format : Double Robusto (Dobles) Size : 156 x 19.84 mm Ring : 50 Wrapper : Cuba Binder : Cuba Filler : Cuba Hand-Made Smoke Time: 1.5 hours Appearance: Beautiful oily chocolate brown wrapper with pigtail, minimal veins, no soft spots, a magnificently constructed cigar Draw: Perfect draw with just the right amount of resistance offering sweetness with a hint of spice and apricot 1st 3rd: Once lit the cigar produces large volumes of thick chewy smoke, the cigar opens in a medium body with rich flavours of chocolate and nuts. In the first 3rd a nice salty taste develops on the tongue and adds a really nice contrast with the chocolate and nuts but only lasts for 3 or 4 draws. Midway through the first 3rd a real grassy flavour makes an appearance and transistions back and forth with the nuts and chocolate and finishes in this profile nice and oily on the palette and lips. 2nd 3rd: Second 3rd continues in a rich nutty chocolate profile and moves in to a real dominant nutty profile a nice hazelnut and peanut, a nice pepper starts to show on the lips and the salty taste is coming in and out, transisitions really nice in this cigar. A touch of sweetness is starting to come out on the finish. The cigar moves in and out of the chocolate, nutty, salty profile with a touch of pepper thrown in. Final 3rd: The cigar moves in to a medium full body, very balanced, continues in a chocolate, nutty profile with the pepper really picking up on the lips. The cigar remains consistent throughout, stays in a nutty chcolate profile with a nice salty taste and a bit of sweetness thrown in. Final observations: With 3 years on this cigar it is truly starting to shine. I do not find this cigar overly complex but the flavours it has it does very well. I really enjoyed the transitions throughout the cigar and kept it interesting until the end. I am anxious to see how this cigar develops with a couple more years of age on it, it is already very impressive and with a little more time will shine even brighter. Score Appearance: 14/15 Draw & Burn: 19/20 Flavour & Complexity: 26/30 Overall: 33/35 Total: 92/100
El Presidente Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 What a beautiful box of cigars! I have struggled with this Trini but you have inspired me to fire another one up some time this week!
riazp Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 exellent review, I do enjoy a good trinidad, never had the Rob T extra...might just have to now.
jedipastor Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 Great review! I've had 3 of these, the first was awesome the next two just good. I wonder if the difference in my experiences was due to age (the 1st one was at least 4-years-old). I got some nice caramel & cream in all 3, though, which is something that I look for in Trinidads. I think I have one more of these, I'll have to put it on the Green Mile.
