LCDH in Dubai Airpot

My apologies,I never remember to use that function!! I'll do it now.

No apologies necessary, and I'm by no means trying to dissuade the question - I've just no personal experience, but know there have been a couple of discussions.

That should be one place where you can find the Ramon Allones Phoenecian Regional Libano Anniversary that none of us can acquire in our part of the world!

I lived in the Middle East for a number of years and bought quite a few boxes from Dubai Airport Duty Fee before discovering Friends of Habanos. I found the Cuban cigars from Dubai were quite inconsistent. I'd get a good box one trip and then a couple of poor ones the next trip, so it's a bit of a lottery. As well as inconsistent stock, the Dubai airport humidor doesn't have the best storage conditions (to much variation), but I guess there is big turnover so they get away with it. After finding FOH I never bought another cigar in Dubai. I also think you'll find the Dubai prices are not much cheaper than FOH USD prices. Anyway, if they're cheaper in Dubai it may be worth taking the risk. If buying in Dubai, best go for something that has been relatively consistent of late, like the H. Upmann Sir Winstons, to give yourself the best chance. Hope this helps.

I had an interesting experience with the Dubai Airport DF store. After hearing of the gems available there, I identified an Army friend who was flying through Dubai on his way back from a trip to Afghanistan. I asked him to pick up a couple of boxes for me. I meanwhile emailed the DF store and asked them to put a box of ERDM Tainos (2000 - 2nd last box they had) and undated RA 898s (last box they had) aside for my friend to pick up. A lengthy email train followed to make sure they knew when "my representative" was coming, etc.

My friend showed up and was apparently woo'ed to no end - they sat him down in some sort of lounge, brought out the boxes of cigars and began to parade some big-$$$ scotches in front of him, that would "mix wonderfully" with the chosen cigars. He politely repeatedly declined and asked to pay for the cigars and be on his way. Eventually they let him go, with their kindest thanks to pass on to me. Apparently, they thought I was some rich SOB who sent his minions around the world to buy his cigars for him :) Priceless!

They had some additional cigars I wanted (SLR Lonsdales 50 cab for example), however the diplomatic row between UAE and Canada means that no one I know will be travelling through any time soon.

And the cigars - the RA 898s are the finest cigars I own, bar none. The ERDM Tainos are stellar examples as well - in my top 5 for sure, but those RA898s damn near bring tears to my eyes each time I smoke one, they are that good. I have brought one with me on the ship - I expect to smoke it once we've completed our mission and have begun to head home! Either that, or my birthday :D

I was there very recently. They still had boxes of ERDM Tainos, Coronas Grandes, and other hard to find or discontinued cigars like the R&J Celestiales Finos, Sancho Panza Belicosos and Punch Monarcas. They also had ER like the RA Phoenicios 32 (Lebanon), Punch Robustos (UAE), and Bolivar El Greco (Greece). I agree that the quality is variable so it is best to be able to choose by yourself.

The have been there a few times and have been pleased with the cigars I purchased. Almost everything in Dubai is OVERpriced, which many know, so finding cigars with a decent price tag there was a shock to me. It is worth the visit. I love that airport, once you enter the gulf everything seems to be about excess and excessive indulging. Also, I think if I remember right- when I was staying at a hotel (it is one of the Jumeirah's) and there was a large collection of Cuban cigars where I had acquired some Behikes :perfect10: hope you have fun but remember that place is a terrible representation of any kind of culture or beauty in the Middle East, it's more so a Disneyworld for the rich and bored.
