BHK54 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 What is your opinion about best cigar age? I have heard that best is around 8 years...that it doesn't improve after that?
Colt45 Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I can only say that each cigar is unique and peak flavor is subject to individual taste.
Dbone Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I can only say that each cigar is unique and peak flavor is subject to individual taste. Of course this is a deep rabbit hole, but I've never had a cigar loose flavor with 3 years. If anything some refinement in flavor. I'm not concluding that's the complete truth, but what I've learned and experienced with my own stash.
lemmycaution Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 For me, it's too hard to make general statements about age. Like Colt said, every cigar can be different even within one box. It's all up to individual taste. If I were to make a general statement, I would say 3 years is pretty good on most cigars.
TankerT Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I'm sure there is a joke about them being 18 years old somewhere... but I'm too slow tonight to figure it out...
Rehman Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 The best cigar age, I suggest, would be from the 40s to the 60s. By then, those who had been smoking since youth will have attained perfect maturity as cigaristas, while those coming relatively late to the art would not find it incompatible with their station. It is also that golden stage of life when disposable income and the discernment to dispose of it satisfactorily are at their peak, as well as when the youthful pleasures of a social life still overlap with the more sedentary pursuits of the elderly... Oh, you meant for cigars. Three to five years, thereabouts?

Three to five years, thereabouts? I had a 2010 Monte 2 Monday which surpassed anything I have had since 2002. Brilliance personified. I had a HDM Gourmet 2001 Friday which was good. Solidly good. I had a RASS from 10 last Wednesday which kept me enthralled and a D4 which bucked the recent trend and was appalling. When you work it out let me know There are certain cigars which need serious age. QD, Dieux, etal. Otherwise, purchase great boxes regardless of age.

The last box of Dieux I bought had to sit in my humidor for almost six months before they smoked well.
