Vortigan Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Hey All I've been mulling over, ever more seriously, the prospect of leaving these shores for Canada. It's a country I've only visited once but loved what I saw of it.And all the reading I've done tells me that it'll be a country that I know I'd love to settle in.I'm a registered nurse, single parent to a 10 year old daughter and no baggage,so to speak. And I've got an Aunt out there too in Ontario which is the sort of thing that I believe also goes in my favour.Any advice, tips, encouragement and/or useful websites etc that you can direct me to?.Thanks everyone, Mike
Puros Y Vino Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Hey Mike. You'll love it here. The Winter's can be a bit rough but the summers are great. I don't have a whole slew of links to toss your way but the best way to start is with the official site. Canada Immigration. From this link you'll find other related links as well. And since you're a nurse perhaps take a look here. Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. Get in contact with them, perhaps they can advise you as well. It's always good to find an employer that can help sponsor you. Nurses are always in demand here as far as I can tell. Good luck! Perhaps we'll be able to share a smoke someday. Cheers, Frank
riazp Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Mike, Bund basically gave you all the info you need. As a fellow ex-pat brit, I can tell you that canada is a very nice place to live, the winters can be brutal, but the people are nice, diverse culture, good education system, good health care system in principal...but yeah we need all the doctors and nurse's we can get! Likewise, maybe we'll be able to have a smoke one day! Good Luck Riaz
tmac77 Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 +1 on what was posted up above. My wife is a nurse also so if and when you do arrive I can possibly help out in that area. Another good source of info is the college of nurses Ontario http://www.cno.org/ Tom

Cheers, Frank Hey Frank, thank you very much indeed! that's a great help indeed.I'll definitely check out The RN Association,God if I could get a sponsorship too that would be incredible! I see you're in Toronto, that's where I was based when I was out there, stayed at The Strathcona.I'd always wanted to go,my dad was out there for a time during WW2,he was Merchant Navy, and he always said it was a country he'd love to go back to someday. My Aunt lives in Bramalea,ON.We've spoken on the phone but never met,but as I said from what I understand if you have relatives there it all counts in your favour in terms of the points scoring etc. Thanks again Frank.
Vortigan Posted July 9, 2011 Author Posted July 9, 2011 Thanks you guys very much indeed! I knew I'd get some good help and encouragement from my FOH friends! And it would be so good to share a smoke with you all someday, that would certainly be a goal I'd hope to achieve early on if I make it there! Right, time to get the printer switched on and start a bit of research.Thank you all again very much!
Ghabanos Posted July 9, 2011 Posted July 9, 2011 Go for it! Canada is awesome. I'm from the mid west but nonetheless it is awesome in the Ontario region. If you are moe flexible... I recommend Alberta....
