We've been having some really warm and humid weather of late here in The UK and the RH in the air is clearly much higher than the steady 65% in my humi.I've been fighting with an HU2 for the last 90 minutes which has now gone out 3 times.I guess this is just something to be put up with?.Or is there anything I can do to combat it?.I hope I'm not asking a really dumb question. Thanks everyone,

Mike

43% in the room right now, was as high as 82% last week.

During the summer, when it's humid here, I introduce fresh crystal cat littler into my cabinet to maintain the RH% I want. I find it much cheaper and simpler to combat the conditions within the humidor than to bring down the RH% of the room I'm in.

I use humidity beads year round to help in controlling RH fluctuations within my humidor / cabinet. I have about 5Lbs, way to much but it makes me sleep better at night. Of course, if your humidor or cab is cooled you may get unwanted humidity the closer you get to the dew point if not sealed... or even by opening the door.

It's defiantly not a bad question, it's a real problem and one I had learn to deal with after a few years with personal experience. Dehumidifier helps in a pinch if you need to drop the extra humidity within your room / house. Although wont do much for you if you keep the windows open. Good luck, Mike.

Hmm it's in the low 50's at the moment here, I'm in the process of re-calibrating 3 hygrometers but in my humidor it's around 65%, when it gets higher (say 67ish) I open the humidor door and let some of the drier air in.

Is the humidity in your house the same as it is outside? My humidor is in room with thee windows luckily so I have a draft blowing through.

Are you asking if there's anything you can do while smoking the cigar in very humid conditions to prevent it from going out? That's what it sounds like to me. If so, aside from making the cigar very dry before you light it and making an effort to keep it lit, I really don't think so. Sometimes it's just too damn humid (or too damn hot) to smoke a larger cigar.

Yeah I'd say it's about the same indoors as out, possibly even a little higher (only a small house,mid-terrace etc),although I do light up with a big window open.Like I said,my humi has been sitting nicely at 65%,took the stick out, looked and felt perfect but after the first half inch or so it just felt like a hugely over-humidified cigar, increasingly difficult draw and three complete re-lights altogether.Gave up the unequal struggle with about a quarter left.

Yeah that's it my friend, exactly that.

You can dry box for a few days priot to smoking but if the humidity near you is higher than you want to smoke at that probably doesn't help. Maybe popping some into a fridge for a day if you don't have condensation in your fridge?

Could have been a funny stick but last week I was getting the same issue, now it's dried out my stuff is smoking fine again.

Maybe sit next to a fan or get a cheap dehumidifier from argos for your smoking room?

Unless your smoking your cigar in a sauna, ambient humidity in the area your smoking should have little to no effect. Might want to check the humidor, re-calibrate any hygros just to be sure. I usually find i have to do a recalibration this time of year anyway, digital hugrometers will lose an increment of accuracy through the year and will struggle to keep up with the vast seasonal changes in the uk weather.

I thought the same as you Steve.Calibrated my hygrometer just two weeks ago though and it was bang on 75% after an 8 hour salt test so I don't know!
