davidl Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I read in a bunch of places that there was a definite difference between the dress box and cabinet versions. Have you noticed a difference, and to what extent?
gigabyte056 Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I read in a bunch of places that there was a definite difference between the dress box and cabinet versions. Have you noticed a difference, and to what extent? I had a lot of experience with the cabinet version, picked up a box once and the press did something off to the cigar. seemed tighter and the draw was off to me. I think it is essentially the same cigar just the cabinet gives it better living space. but hell what do I know, I just burn them....
davidl Posted June 23, 2011 Author Posted June 23, 2011 I definitely hear what you are saying re the impact that the cabinets have on the cigars - probably true of all cigars. Min Ron Nee mentions that the dress box version is milder, and probably a different blend. Weird, I know....but I read something similar in another cigar book that I have. I guess that's why I was asking for the forum's opinion on this.
SCgarman Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 Rob mentioned that the quality of cigars has been higher in the cabs vs. the dress boxes. I am not sure why, but he personally inspects many boxes. As far as a difference in blend, I would not believe that myth, as all Party shorts should be made to a specific recipe as far as the leaves go, for some folks it is personal preference as far as the type of box. A cabinet box will give you a round cigar and a dress box will give you a box pressed semi-square shaped cigar.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 23, 2011 Posted June 23, 2011 I think a good parti short is a good parti short, regardless of the packaging. It just seems that you are more likely to get a good bunch from a cabinet. Of coure you can bypass this whole argument and talk to Lisa who will get you a good box/cabinet regardless
thechenman Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I've smoked both, and honestly I don't think they taste any different from each other. As far as aging prospects go, I have not smoked any well aged samples of either version, so I can't say. That said...in some respects I am like Hutch in that I prefer my cigars in the round. Solely a tactile feel type of preference. Therefore, when the optin presents itself, I will always select the cab over the dress box.
ramon_cojones Posted June 24, 2011 Posted June 24, 2011 I guess I'm in the minority but I love me a good box press (though I like cabs). Used to smoke brazilias, loved padrons and the bp of cigars like RASS give it some more character. BP feels better between the teeth too.
