I'm getting ready for a long deserved vacation and was hoping that the FOH crew could help suggest a few good books to pick up for the trip. I read "Sh*t My Dad Says" during Christmas and laughed the entire time. Anyone got any suggestions for something humorous?

Mindless humor: I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell by Tucker Max

Little smarter: Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

Jesus Weed by Gerald Taylor is a great holiday book, not overly long and one you can't put down, funny too

Stonehenge: A Novel of 2000 BC by Bernard Cornwell is also a great holiday book, easy read but great story telling, long too so will tide you over for a week. It's not humour but worth a look.

Not really humor, but a couple I like which are Cuba related - Havana Nocturne and Looking For La Bomba.

I'm a real fan of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe mysteries - I like all kinds of books.

Enjoy your vacation!

If non-humor is fair game as well, a few I have read and enjoyed recently:

Pale Fire by Vladimir Nabokov

Foucoult's Pendulum by Umberto Eco

A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin (The source for the new HBO series, much acclaimed)

They are currently playing live recordings of David Sedaris on BBC radio at the mo,hilarious.

another light yet brilliant novel, and funny with it,would be Cannery Row by Steinbeck....great easy going holiday read.

For funny try Neil Gaiman's Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch ("this tale of the bungling of Armageddon features an angel, a demon, an 11-year-old Antichrist and a doomsaying witch; unmistakably British humor is in abundance. ") If you like fantasy.

I just started Philip Roth's Zuckerman Bound trilogy. Good but not vacation reading I think. Too dense, you can't skim over anything.

Also working on The Thousand Autums of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell. A very good story. Not in the humor category. Could be vacation reading, though. It kind of picks up where Shogun leaves off.

Thanks for all the responses! I will have to look into a few of those as some of the suggestions weren't even on my radar.

Have a sit at a local outside café with a great drink and cigar

and just look around you for an hour, that should get you some laughs :spotlight:

Have a great vacation.
