Ken Gargett
have just seen this post - been off air for a bit. this was what rob sent out at the time - pre the forum. "La Habana, January 17th 2003, COHIBA SELECCIÓN RESERVA. Habanos S.A. introduces the new special production Cohiba Selección Reserva. This humidified box contains a selection of 30 cigars: 6 Coronas Especiales 4 Espléndidos 6 Robustos 8 Pirámides 6 Medias Coronas "Cohiba Selección Reserva" has been elaborated with tobacco coming from the best Vegas of San Luis and San Juan y Martínez, in the Vuelta Abajo producing region. The tobacco filler leaves have been aged for over 3 year’s time before rolling the cigars. This specially aged tobacco liberates even more progressively the unique Cohiba’s flavour and aroma. This production incorporates the Reserva band, accompanying the main Cohiba band, which in this occasion incorporates the name of the brand in golden letters. All of it so as to brighten the presentation of the Selección Reserva. It’s also the first time that the Media Corona Vitola is produced in the Cohiba brand, and it will only be available in this special production. Due to the exclusivity of this Cohiba Selección Reserva, which contains the Habanos’ most outstanding brand, and also because of the meticulous selection of the best Cuban tobacco leaves from Vuelta Abajo finest Vegas, specially aged for this occasion, Cohiba Selección Reserva is bound to be a noteworthy event in the world of cigars. This humidified box will be available in limited quantities in the next weeks, only in selected stores all around the world." Well it looks like the " I love Fidel" letter I write each month to Havana have paid off because we have been selected to stock this collectors item (…yes I read the letter twice and it was addressed to me). Needless to say, quantities will be small, prices high and profit margins low. i also remember that Rob was kind enough to offer them at a mere $1,900 while Havana was charging the outrageous price of $570, though this was US$ compared to $A and there are lots of taxes, costs and kids to put through school, to be fair to Rob. i picked up one from Havana in a splurge of stupid proportions and it is EAR Dic 02, which was after Rob's offer so i doubt much past 03. Trevor2118
These cigars still appear to be on sale all over the world. Is this another Trinidad farmhouse??????????????????????? Did they not sell well at the time ?? or did the Cubaans forget to stop counting? And finally, are/were they any good?

jdbrown
I have a box but have not touched! Thought for the price I would wait for the death bed or retirement. Have never seen too many reviews but the one's posted have been good.

Like Rob said, these cigars are very expensive, hence why they are still available. Also, not a lot of people bought (and thus reviewed) them, further discouraging potential buyers. And also, some have bought but not touched them yet (again, as they are so expensive). So no reviews here either. Personally I have bought 2 boxes (DIC 02) and smoked one of the boxes. They're very good cigars overall (I didnt like the pyramides much, though), but the price isnt justified IMHO. Not as far as the smokes are concerned anyway. The robustos are fantastic, though. Really really good. Too bad there are only 6 of them in a box!

I suppose that if you consider that they are the next level above a Limited Edition, the price is comparable. Ken says he brought his at $1,900 AUD for 30 cigars, and say 2006 LE Cohiba pyramids are $600 AUD for 10....it looks about right (but as you say ....very expensive). habanohal
SO I will tell you all to find a box and buy them. People say that the 02s are better than the 03s, but I dont think %99 of people could tell the differance . As by lieing them side by side for a taste test. I tend to agree that the Robusto and the Esplendido are perhaps the pick. But when you have only a handfull of sticks of each....it really makes you think hard before firing another one up ;-)
Mel
I have bought three boxes of these and am halfway through the second one, all the OSU Dic 02. They are great cigars with the flavors of the larger ring gauge getting better and the thin ones peaked. IMHO. I have a friend that does not like the Pirimides and gives them to me as his "culls".:-D
