TexS Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Is it worth removing the bands if you will be flying from one US state to another? I'm afraid someone at the airport might mistake my Dominicans that say "Cuban seed" on the band for a Habano. Yes.. That's what they are Mr. Airport Security Guy... Dominicans! It's only 5 sticks in a 5 stick travel humi.
archosaur Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 No customs checks between states. I wouldnt worry about it.
cigcars Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 *If you're traveling between states your bandless stogies shouldn't be bothered. It's persons traveling between countries who've had the various unpleasant stories of customs agents looking at their unbanded cigars and telling the unfortunate travellor, "We believe these to be Cuban cigars," and confiscate them. Personally I loathe the thought of removing the bands. Like'em left on. Yet it's hard to advise you one way or the other. With worst case scenario, if your banded smokes were caught by some air screen security or whatever, it would be a case of making them believe they weren't PURCHASED. If they're a GIFT, then it's supposed to be okay to have them to the best of my knowledge. Sorry can't be more helpful!

Dominicans! It's only 5 sticks in a 5 stick travel humi. In ordinary interstate travel, there should be no need to even LOOK at your smokes. Put 'em in your camera case, computer case or carry-on and run 'em through the machine. You only have issues in the first place if you're coming into the country. I wouldn't put 'em into checked baggage simply because they're more liable to be stolen one way or the other. As it stands, you're not carrying enough to warrant any real concern. Happy trails!
benjaminbbush Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Let us know if you do run into trouble. I would say that since you are not going through "customs" then you should not have a problem, but the "grope gestapo" at the airport can check anything they want to check. Not sure that mere possession is a violation of the embargo only the expenditure of funds. BUT they are dominican not cuban. I think that I read somewhere that there is an exemption in the embargo for "cuban seed products grown in other countries". But again, I am not 100% sure on that either.
MoneyPit Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I travel quite a bit throughout the US and have never had a problem. I always use my travel humidor and place it in my checked luggage. Don't worry about it you should be fine.
rallones Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I don't think you'll have any issues. I have taken smokes with Habana labels on them between GA and NY and never had a problem. I always take my smokes on the plane with me b/c I don't want the temperature variation they'd be exposed to if in the cargo hold to impact their smokeability.
