frenchkiwi Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Apparently this fight is on this weekend... i confess to little knowledge about those involved as i've not followed this weight division at all ... but i saw the of the last fight and it looked like a cracker with Hopkins coming back from two or so knockdowns to earn a draw (one judge short of a victory). Finally a competitive title fight with some meaning attached to it. Anyone have any comments on this one? Here's an interesting article on Hopkins everlasting career
cigcars Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 *We will be watching. I think. Am feeling a little downcast because my 16yr. old dachshund is well, sort of going slow. In other words, possibly on his way "out". My friends and family are telling me, "He's SIXTEEN!" So I'm just doing the watch. And do intend to check out the fight. May the best man win...(Go Bernard!!!)
frenchkiwi Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 sorry to hear that ... good luck with your dachsy and remember, he might be old, but Hopkins is 46 and aiming for world title so there's still hope for the ageing ...
CigarB Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Both have had some pretty harsh things to say about each other. Hopkins is a crafty fighter who started boxing in prison. He's a big trash talker leading up to a fight, but I think it's mainly for show. Fighting Hopkins the second time is never an easy task, he's got a great defense and finds ways to win.

brutusthebuckeye Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I care more about cigcars dog than i do a Hopkins fight.... I have a 7 year old St.Bernard who has had and still having health issues....hang in there cigcars!!!!!
cigcars Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Brightened up for the day! Looked outside and he was out of his house, resting on the mat. Jumped up when I opened the door. Was bouncing around...and he ATE his food - Whew! I called my power prayer friend teams to tell them apparently their petitions to The Almighty in his behalf worked! And all my grateful thanks to you my fellow forum members for your well wishes. I do have to remember...he's SIXTEEN! My buddies are telling me, "Look I'm 50! It takes ME awhile to get my body started!" Oh - back to the bout between Pascal and Hopkins - Yes! Will have the smoking team over for the excitement and hopeful results (yay Hopkins!) Because now I feel like celebrating
frenchkiwi Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 Champion of the World age 46, in a legit fight, against the best fighter in the division. And taunting Pascal with showpony pressups in the late rounds to boot. Almost gets knocked out in the last round but survives. Great drama. Hopkins is a Legend.
riazp Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Good fight, being a montrealer i'm suppose to be rooting for pascal...which i was during the first fight...but after watching the first fight and seeing the horrendous judging, (hopkins won the first fight) I knew hopkins was taking this one, well derseved win. Hopkins is truely one of the greats
cigcars Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 *So happy about the results of the bout. Too much clinching, holding, etc. At anytime I thought the ref was going to take a point (or two!) Also, update on my dachshund...he came up to the door, I coaxed him in (muhahahaha!!!) Pushed another health capsule down his throat, cleaned out his ears, manicured his behind, etc. He perked up enough to dart out the door, wouldn't come back..."Oh no you don't, Doctor Mengele!" and I fed him steak. He ate. And he's in hiding (under the bush next to the back door - I know where he is!) And I appreciate all you guys wonderful well wishes. Kind words to an anxious soul is sometimes a better medicine than actual medicine, you know!

cementhead339 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 I didnt see the first fight but i heard it was the same as this one with a different decision. only fight our there id like to see would be Manny Pacquiao vs. Mayweather, but who knows if that will ever come off. maybe there waiting till there 47 to fight so they can get the record. khomeinist Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Amusing fight. Hopkins definitely schooled the younger fighter. I liken Pascal to a bull and Hopkins the graceful matador. Dawson looked poor. Hopkins would beat him as well.
