BobKincaid Posted May 25, 2011 Posted May 25, 2011 Christ you are killing me over here!I can't vote Rob. The grandeur of so many of these cigars, all listed as my favorites, makes it impossible for me to say one is better than the other. I have smoke absolutely stunning cigars out of this bunch with exception of the LGC, Punch and Gourmet. The Le Hoyo line is a favorite but the du Gourmet has never been a stunner for me. Thanks for thinking of the dying breeds! -Piggy "Dying breed," indeed. And what a shame that is. Such appears to be the case among both CCs and NCs. What's the reason? Is it because of the current trend toward fatties? Is it a torcero skill issue? Are they more costly to produce, thus creating higher retail price points? Is it all simply a matter of marketing? The trend toward cigars that require less time to smoke on account of the spread of restrictive laws and statutes? More than anything, I think the long & skinnies have a certain elegance to them, and seeing them fade away seems somewhat of a reflection on what cigar smoking has become: to-wit, another pleasantry that we now feel compelled to rush. That's a darned shame.
Holysmokes Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 Partagas Serie de Connaisseur No 1... Drooling as we speak. I haven't had one of those in quite a while. I think I am overdue.
shrink Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 My new favorite "long skinny" is the Jose Gener La Escepcion Longo. These ninfas (33 RG X 178 L) were discontinued in the mid 80's; the one I smoked recently was a 1985. It was luxuriously spicy, with sweet pepper on the tongue, and a complex woody profile that was reminiscent of root beer. That's right.. root beer. The burn, draw and smoke volume were ideal.

Yep, great smoke, but pretty hard to find these days. I finished my last about 2 years ago.
Lotusguy Posted June 1, 2011 Posted June 1, 2011 Just ordered a box of QdO Panetelas - how do they compare to the ones listed above? I am trying to get a box of each of the long and skinnies I can still find (striking out on the SdC #1 and ERDMs so far and the only Vegueros I can find are from 2000 which is too risky for me for fear of construction issues).
