Amc82 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Hey everyone here at FOH. I have been smoking cigars since 08 and within the last few months I have started to acquire Cubans. And I must say so far I have not been blown away. I have not smoked a ton yet because I am aging most of my stash. I am looking for some help here as well. I have smoked a Monte #4 that I am not sure of the year and it was a great cigar. I have also smoked a Bolivar PC and it was not great along with a HDM EE #2 from 09 that was not great either. And I just finished a Monte #2 from 09 and that left me with something to desire. I also had a RASS and I got these with the impression that they smoke well ROTT but it did not. I know that Cubans smoke better with age but I feel like there should be more flavors there. The Monte did have some creaminess and chocolate notes but that was all I got out of it and those flavors were pretty muted. My plan is to age most if not all my Cubans for at least 3 plus years. I keep them at 65%.
jnt Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Welcome You really didnt like the Hoyo Epicure 2, and monte 2. Those are gems.
thechenman Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Welcome to FoH. About the cigars...how low after they arrived in the mail did you smoke them. I know the RASS you smoked ROTT, but it is generally wise to let them sit for 30 days after getting them in the mail and allowing them to acclimate to you humidor, that is adjusted to your preferred smoking preference. It could be possible though that outside the Montecristo #4, the others just weren't your cup of tea. That is perfectly normal. Best to smoke and expereince the variety that Cuba has to offer. In time you'll find where you palate goes and what you prefer. That said...some people, as hard as it may be to believe, never develop a taste for Cuban tabacco, preferring instead cigars from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Honduras, even Mexico. Too each their own I say...just leave more Cuban cigars for us Habanos lovers.
Amc82 Posted April 22, 2011 Author Posted April 22, 2011 I let all of them sire for at leaste 3 weeks except the RASS I smoked the next day only because I got 3 one for me, one for my dad and the other for my brother I would have let them rest but my dad was leaving to go back to WA only a few days after receiving them.
