Good morning everyone,

I have been lurking on here for close to half a year, but had problems getting my login to work and have been bothering Lisa the last couple of days. She helped me fix it today. Thanks! :D

Little background info of how I started smoking cubans.. I'll be 27 in may. As a kid I remember watching "extra tv" and they had the Governator aka Arnold and some other celebrities, like Vanessa Williams (random that I remembered that) and the hosts said, (paraphrasing) "Wow all the celebrities visit cuba to smoke Cubans.. Cuban cigars are the Best in the World!" Literally, from that moment, I told myself.. One day, Oliver, when I grow up I'm going to be cool like that and smoke cuban cigars (well, at least try =]) and have a nice man room with a leather sofa and sip on brandy and shoot the s**t with my friends.. (that's hopefully to come). Cigars>Cigarettes, at least it is marketed that way and I've been brainwashed by the media into believing that, so I've never smoked a cigarette or anything else for that matter.

Fast forward to half a year ago, one of my gym buddies, in his early forties was smoking a stogie and had an extra, so naturally, I asked to try one.. It got me really light headed and soon thereafter I started on that devil site (somethinginternational.com :o ) and started bidding away. After a month or two on nc's I started to progress to cubans, and now, only cubans. I figure for the price, if similar, I'll stick with the cuban. (I know I'm missing out on Padrons, Opuses, etc.. My palette is kind of weak.. I can't taste vanilla, almonds etc.. some reviews go into ridiculous detail of the taste, which make me envious. Hopefully, it will come in time.

This is what I'm smoking or have at the moment, roughly 70 sticks, in my cuban humi. The other nc humi has an opus my friend gave me and some oliva serie v and a couple of olde world maduro sticks that I enjoy from Rocky Patel.<-- :D surprised I admitted that as many people say its a cruddy brand.

Monte #2 (Probably 1st favorite as this was the first enjoyable cuban I had, after my friend received a really crappy box of BBF that made me think.. "Wow cubans aren't that great and the quality of the stick.. wrapper/sheen/flavor sucks. I like the Montes, but a lot of people or reviews I read seem to like the H. Upmann #2 or say the Montes aren't great). It gives me a slight buzz/kick, which is nice.

Monte Petite Edmundos (My go to smoke, if you can call it that with my brief introduction to cubans. Probably, my second favorite after the #2.)

CoRo (had 2 so far, not bad but can't say I love it so far)

PSD4 (had 2 so far as well, tight draw)

HDM #2 (had a few, but only ok)

Partagas P2 (had one, but probably need to smoke more, same goes for the rest, but yeah)

Partagas Shorts (many are plugged from the 12 or so I have =/ so it's kind of mehh)

RASCC (this and the siglo 1 are the more enjoyable out of the 3 short cigars I have smoked. probably smoked 5 of each)

Cohiba Siglo 1

Cohiba Maduro 5 secretos (3rd favorite on this list.)

Any new suggestions would be nice for a beginner that has been in this hobby for about half a year considering my preferences or list that I have up so far??? I'm close to springing on something way above my level.. the behike 52s.. good price for what I've seen online, but I'm afraid the "bad men" will take my stuff. (hope you guys catch my drift) I'm thinking I should put in a "test" order to see if I actually get my goodies in california. (I know I'm not even closeee to that level yet.) Low Thirties for a stick is hard for me to justify =(

I love reading all threads in the forums as I lurk daily. Hopefully CanuckSARTech can hit the "trifecta" on the 3 cigars and I'm surprised Aizuddin didn't get one of the two right, even though he was sick and I believe he didn't smoke the second stick and made a guess off appearance, from what I recall.. could be wrong. Btw, I found this forum through Aizuddin, so Thanks for the referral!

I can't wait to finally get some HQ or PSP, probably HQ from the Live in the Humidor threads on Friday.

If you made it this far, "big ups"= thanks for reading, one of the longest intros everrrrr ;)

Nice intro Oliver...Welcome to FoH! Glad to see that you've been enjoying the forum and of course CCs. By the way, where in Cali to you hail from? I live in NY now, but am originally from SoCal.

You've smoked some pretty good sticks. As far as recommendations go...I see you like your Montecristos. If so, you should definitely work your way through the line. The #2 is a great cigar, as you know, and if you like the Petit Edmundo, definitely give the Edmundo a try. The #4 is a Montecristo staple and the Especial and Especial #2 are both great smokes in the Montecristo marca. As are great if you don't mind getting light headed and have the time to enjoy a nice long smoke. I haven't been a big fan of the #1, #3 or #5, but there are those who like them.

If you like the Cohiba Secretos, you should definitely give the Genios and Magico a try. I'm not a huge fan of either...but the Secretos aren't bad at all.

Partagas is my favorite marca, and if you get the chance you should definitely try the Lusitania and the 898V.

If you haven't tried Trinidad yet, you should definitely give the Robusto T (not to be confused with the Short Robusto T) and the Reyes. Both of these a great smokes as well.

You will find that Bolivar come highly recommened here at FoH. I tend to lean towards the Corona Extra and the Corona Gigante, but you will find many fans of the Petit Corona as well.

H. Upmann Magnum 46s are also great smokes as are the Magnum 50 (my personal HUp favorite) and the Magnum 48. The Sir Winston is phenomenal as well.

There are so many more, that I could just go on and on, but these are a few that you can start with and see how it goes. Good luck!

Welcome! Great intro, recognize a lot of the sticks I smoked in the beginning. Don't worry the flavors will come to you in time. I expected vanilla and honey and all those crazy flavors when I started smoking thinking that it would be like biting into an ice cream cone, but after smoking a little more you'll come to the realization that the flavors are more subtle than that.

During the mystery cigar competition I realized that taking your time and REALLY concentrating on a cigar makes a huge difference. You'll notice more flavors than you thought you would (if the stick is alright )

Enjoy the forum. Your knowledge will jump ahead in leaps!

@thechenman, Thank you for all the recommendations. I will try to get a few of those sticks and slowly work through that list. I have some petite coronas like the BPC, PLPC, and Monte 4's that I want to get.

@jnt, as of now yeah i'm really enjoying the monte's, but we'll see how my tastes develop/change over time.

I'm sure Smithy is going to love being compared to Ken!! ;) Make sure you place your orders through Lisa... Smithy may decide to send you some "special" cigars after that comparison!! :)

I lived in Arcadia last year for three months. That city is total Nirvina.

I used to smoke in my truck in the Starbucks parking lot on Sundays. Only place I could smoke, read, and drink coffee at the same time :) If I got the first parking spot I could even hit SBs wi-fi and surf the net.

Fair Oaks is on again. LMK and hope to see you there.
