capecc Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 OPM-SEP.09 A quick review from a nice box I'm almost done with. Saving the last box I have for aging, who knows if I'll ever get to pick up another one. These have a pretty, smooth light wrapper, rolled almost perfectly, just a tad tight with a little pull on the draw which I'll take over under filled any day. 1st 3rd Nice floral notes, a tad milder flavors than I remember it's been a while since I had one. No spice/pepper at all even through the nose. 2nd 3rd Aroma like a bouquet of flowers. Some nice coffee with cream mixed in, not nearly as much as say a monte #4 but enough to appreciate. Caramel/toffee I picked up especially in the 2nd third which is nice, and new to me. Last 3rd Love these on my way to work in the morning with coffee, milder strength but full of flavor. Floral aromas stay throughout with coffee and a little bit of creaminess in there. Wouldn't quite say "barnyard" flavors, I'll call it a light earthy flavor instead. Not the best Dip 4's I've had but well above average. 89/100
ksblazer Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 Thanks for the review and Pic's. I like the Dip No.4 as a change of pace cigar. As you menioned they are milder in strength but full of good flavor. Too bad they are no longer in current production.
bassman Posted April 18, 2011 Posted April 18, 2011 I want to like these, but they are not very distinctive. Maybe they just need more time. My 01 Diplo #3s are sublime.
Dbone Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Nice review and photos. The Dip 4 is a great cigar in terms of consistency. Consistency in flavor and construction. Medium to light bodied, short finish, king of the floral!
LeafLover Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Thanks for the review. Dip 4's are very unique in flavor. Dam good PC.
frenchkiwi Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 nice one... i just had one of these couple weeks ago, from '08 (and czar), they used to be quite woody and packed with tannins and now they have developed a zingy white pepper, slightly more complex profile. only a few left but they are ageing well, another year or 2 and they would hit their stride. Pity i'm no good at waiting....
gigabyte056 Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Great review. I am now the owner of 5 boxes of these, I stock them in the back of my "open once a month" wine cooler and transferred just 10 to smoke one a month to my smaller humi. I love the consistency of this cigar. Hope these last at least 5 years.
