Strada Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 After a long talk(disagrement) with a coworker today, I wanted to ask fellow FOH about their sport&cigars relationship. What kind of sport you do & at what level? is it affecting your performances? .... Personally, on a weekly basis, I jog twice, I play in a basketball and volleyball league and I bike to work. I can't say it I have seen any negative effect on my health (cardio & endurance). My coworker seem to say the complete opposite. What about you guys?
bc8436 Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 If Michael Jordan can smoke cigars while winning 6 NBA titles ...
FireDigger Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I run and play basketball. Cigars don't affect my physical activities since I don't inhale the smoke. I don't think anyone does inhale cigar smoke, at least not much?
sloth Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Discussions like these always makes me laugh knowing who I smoke cigars with. A cigar store owner who wrestled in college and is still a meathead. A local news anchor that is a pro-body builder. Two dentists. A couple who run marathons. Also a personal friend of mine lost a lot of weight and now works out on a regular basis. He never like smoking cigars until he became more active, now he smokes them everyday! me?... i'm just a lazy goodfornothing exception ...
dicko Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I sometimes smoke while I'm swimming laps. There's no effect on my cardio but I have to keep stopping to relight. some gold from you today Clinto!! I just shoved 100kg over my head and squatted 140kg for reps, and I had a PL monte carlo for breakfast, but I guess cigars must be bad for me since the government and fat people tell me it is
gigabyte056 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I sometimes smoke while I'm swimming laps. There's no effect on my cardio but I have to keep stopping to relight. I noticed that as well, You should consider swimming in sand or using a submarine... On the point of the question, I exercise 4 times a week, running 8k and lifting weights. No adverse effect whatsoever, tell your co worker to light up or shut up
Vinny Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 Used to be a semi-pro hockey player (meaning I used to chew tobacco a lot, but not anymore), now I'm only playing for fun in a league with ancient pro players, meaning the technical level is good but the guys are not in top shape. Well, my daily game routine is to smoke a robusto on the road to the ice rink as I have 45 minutes of drive. Let me tell you, it's my second year into that league and it's been the best by far Life is too short not to enjoy every part of it. I could not stop playin hockey and I refuse to stop smokin my CC's, so why not doing both?
Rogers72 Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I play golf while smoking cigars. I usually put it down while I'm over the ball though so the smoke doesn't get in my eyes. I jog occasionally but have never tried to do it while smoking cigars. I play Bocce, Horseshoes, Flip-Cup, Beer Pong, and Crouquet while smoking cigars. I'm not a big bowler but I imagine that it could be done with a cigar.
Deemancpa Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 A group us walk our golf club and smoke. I prefer to ride and smoke. Sometimes I think about smoking while walking on my treadmill. I find myself doing less to do more smoking...lol D
Strada Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 Lol I didnt mean both a the same time... Got to say the Treadmill idea is kinda Nice.
thechenman Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 If you ask my wife it's more like a chore. Lol
Habanakane21 Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 I played 4 yrs in the NFL in the 90's and I smoked 4-5 cigars a week. No problems. I even chew tobacco while practicing.
gsmoke Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Not a big athlete by any means -- don't much care for the spectator aspect of sports at all, truth be told. But, I recently started boxing training and love it. It has helped me appreciate the reward of a good smoke. For me the cigars aren't the problem, it's the requisite libations that go with them...
