Pilsner14 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I heard rumors of the Partagas F. being closed in havana for renos. Does anyone have info on this or dates of closure?? Off to Havana with friends and want to take them for a tour and some good smoke. THanks, JD
thechenman Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Not sure whether or not is is currently closed for renovations, but we have had some BOTLs here on the forum who have recently visited. I did hear some talk that they would be closing down for renovations at some point though, so if it does close in the near future I wouldn't be surprised. But this is Cuba we're talking about, so it might not happen for years yet. You never know.
josie67 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 When I was in Cuba for the festival, I heard that the Partagas factory was closing for renovations the day after the festival ended. I forgot how long they thought it was to be closed...some months I would imagine. I heard it from several people..one was the tour guide of the factory itself.
Tarks Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 FYI, Abel had mentioned to me that the LCDH will remain open during renovations.
El Presidente Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 FYI, Abel had mentioned to me that the LCDH will remain open during renovations. Correct Tarks I am guessing two years for renovations. R&J has taken 6 years
Pilsner14 Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Is there a factory there a guy can go check out just for the sake of saying he did (if Partagas is closed).............or not. Thanks, JD
Pilsner14 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Off to Cuba from April 9-17......Resorting in Varadero and hopefully an overnighter in Havana. Just looking to soak up as much as we can in the short time we have in Havana. Tarks you look like the expert Canuck of the group! JD

I have been fortunate to meet some great people in Cuba but I am no expert. I might be an expert beer drinker, or an expert laying on the couch'errrr. lmao. In all seriousness, I think you should be ok. I doubt the Partagas will be closed at that time. I'll send off an email to confirm. Give me a few days.
CanuckSARTech Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Is there a factory there a guy can go check out just for the sake of saying he did (if Partagas is closed).............or not. Thanks, JD Pilsner, I definitely recommend that you check out Pres' thread on the Ultimate Visiting Cuba Guide. Should be some helpful information in there for you. I'd say a decent bet would be to go to the La Corona factory. Generally, it's always open, especially to tours and what not. Nice set up that they have in there, and while not as big or regal as the Partagas factory apparently is, it's still an enjoyable item to see. That said, their store there is usually always a nightmare - crowded, lots of hustlers out on the street, and the staff are too busy to really adequately help you out or let you peruse through the stock to make a smart choice. Just as nice to buy at one of the other prime LCDH's in Havana, or at the one in Varadero at Calle 63. If you're in Varadero, and just thinking of Havana for a side-trip, I definitely recommend doing the guided bus tour that includes Old Havana, and the cigar factory visit, as well as going to the Cristoph Colon cemetary and other interesting spots. The Mrs. and I did that on our first trip, and it was great - the guide made it all worthwhile, her info was invaluable. Now we would do it ourselves, spend extra time where we want, do our own thing, but if you're new to it, a tour is quite nice. I also believe that there's two or three versions of the guided bus tours to Havana, one of them includes an overnight and taking in a show at the Tropicana I think.
Pilsner14 Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Thanks......I have printed out the prez forum to take. I have a friend that works in varadero ( out of Calgary) for Sherrit Energy. I'm hoping she can hook us up with a 'local' to travel us in and tour havana for us, etc. She has been an excellent mule for us over the years and brought back nothing but gold from the LCDH in the plaza there. Really stoked to check everything out first hand. The tours would prob be excellent but its always more fun to cowboy-up and see what happens "out of the Blue", for all those Labatt's guys!

I've been looking forward to a factory tour ever since watching them on Youtube...
