Hello to all on the FOH forum

I have been long overdue for posting in general, and just plain lazy about reviews!! I have recently gotten in the habit of taking camara phone pics and posting them in my outlook for a daily consumption log. I have really enjoyed doing this, and a new iphone only made it easier. Take photos, use mobile stoogie for the box information (and of course inventory), then email it to myself for input the next morning when i get in the office. Great resource for what i have enjoyed and when i smoked it. I have the same problem Rob posted about.....missing cigars and lack of memory about them! LOL

So last night before i left my office, i was going through my humidors looking for something different, preferrably a montecristo. I have had some hit and miss montecristo's lately and wanted a cigar that was different and never had before. I saw these Selection Robusto and Selection Piramides boxes. I have had them for about 5 years and never thought about touching them.........until now. When i first started DIVING into this wonderful hobby i was mesmerized by the little things, and these box/ humidors were considered very special to me. Why? Just the packaging really. Then over time you come to grips that cigars are for smoking, not looking at. I took the Selection Robusto box home and grabbed the montecristo with no real expectations, just a nice comfy cigar evening.

Please be aware that i am a very cut and dry, meat and potatoes guy. So many of the flavors that others can pick up, i cant. Just because i am so simple in my foods and beverages that i just dont know any different. I do know the characteristics of the various brands and what to expect, just cant call them by name, you get the idea!

Aroma at cold was very non discript

After cutting the cap, i was getting excited the aroma was very rich tobacco

This Robusto lit very well and the intitial draw hit me hard. I mean Montecristo x100! I got very excited and didnt want to ruch this experience. After all i have no more!

The first third was amazing. Medium to full bodied and loads of flavor. This reminded me of one of the better examples of a monte #2. Loads of coffee and cream and very smooth.

Second third maintained the same but a step up in richness. The most notible for me was the aroma! Have you ever been taken back by the aroma of a perfect cigar? I was smiling all by myself in my man cave, knida funny actually what a cigar can make a man do! By man cave i mean a 10 ft by 10 ft shop in the back yard with a floor heater and a vent fan going out the door, nothing fancy, but my wife has hated it since it got bulit, thats were I CHILL!

The draw was perfect. I have actaully become paranoid about plugged cigars, i just cant stand taking the time to enjoy something and get burned by the draw. Not even my wife can piss me off like a plugged cigar.

What can i say? This has been a surprise, i just kept looking at it and enjoying the whole essence of what was happening. Aroma, flavors, draw...........sitting by myself smiling!

The end came much sooner then i wanted. Actually a good thing. I love when a cigar takes you by suprise. You suck up everything you can about the experience and try and log it permanently in your mind. If only all the cigars i have take me to this point!! Trying to replicate this will be hard, and i will try not to. Sometimes a good experience just pops in on you.

The finish was nothing but pleasure. No diluted flavors, no poor aftertaste, just a lingering aroma that filled my small shop! WOW what a great monday evening. Thanks Habanos :):rotfl:

Great review, thanks for sharing. Share some reviews of the others in that selection as well if/when you get to them. :)

Great review! I've not tired any of these types of packaging and haven't seen them around in a while. Do let us know how the other four smoke!

Great reviews and pictures, thanks for sharing.

I was actually just thinking about Montecristo the other night, when Pres posted the thread about picking out a robusto cigar from his selection of offerings in a hypothetical question. Well, the one thing that popped into my mind was....why is there no regular production Montecristo robusto?? I mean, it's something that I've thought about at miscellaneous times over the years. Every once in a while, there's a Montecristo robusto released for some special release or specialially issued cigar. But, nothing as a regular production. And, Montecristo is a larger name, yet they don't have this very popular format.

I'm just surprised that Habanos S.A. hasn't done this yet, brought about a regular release for this, rather than some of their other recent blunders.

I've been thinking the same for a long time! It's probably just a marketing thing though. Robusto's are one of the most popular sizes and they can get rid of an entire batch in a short time if they call them Limitadas  It also might steal the thunder of the No. 4 and No. 2

The 2006 Robusto was one of the best Montys I've smoked so far! As for the Edmundo and Master...... one's not a true Robusto and the other's not a true Montecristo or even a true cigar for that matter :rotfl:

Awesome review! I agree and totally understand those times when a cigar puts everything about life in perfect harmony. Those sticks are worth the never ending search that so many of us venture on! Nice work!

Great Review. Love those rare moments when the cigars is simply.........orgasmic...........no other way to discribe I guess lol. Every once in a while I'll open a box and every must just be aligned perfectly. Just enough aging, great harvest, perfect blend, master roller and its just a smoking experience nobody would understand unless personally experienced. Musians would understand actually. I play the drums been in band and gigging for years. Play on average 70 shows a year out of which there are 10 maybe 12 shows that all come together were i'm sitting at the kit playing and getting chills at how awesome it's sounds and how the crowd is reacting another orgasmic experience....lol

Thanks for the review.
