Peter11216 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hello Everybody, This is my first time joining a discussion forum, for cigars or otherwise. I'm looking forward to learning a lot, and doing my best to participate. Though I am still wary about this "newfangled internet thingamajig," I was quite quite happy to see it referred to as such, and feel much more at home already! All the Best, Peter
warren516 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Hi Peter, Welcome to the boards. There is a lot of valuable information here. How long have you been enjoying cigars? What would be some of your favorites?
Peter11216 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Hi Peter,Welcome to the boards. There is a lot of valuable information here. How long have you been enjoying cigars? What would be some of your favorites? I've been smoking cigars regularly for a bit less than 2 years. (Gave up smoking cigarettes about 3 years before that, by the way. I'm happily surprised that after cigars, just the idea of cigarettes is a little disgusting to me. So, ironically smoking has partially helped me quit smoking!) After two years, I'm still not sure what I would say about favorites. My palate is still developing. I almost always enjoy sticks from Arturo Fuente. This Christmas I picked up a box of Añejo Sharks, and have definitely enjoyed those. I like the Ashton ESG (though, I've only been able to buy a few at a reasonable price). The other one that comes to mind right now is the My Father Le Bijou, from Don Pepin Garcia. I've been enjoying the Friends of Habanos YouTube reviews, and am pretty excited about trying more cigars. Thanks for the welcome.

Thanks to a neighbor who smokes, I've been able to try quite a few NC brands and have just gotten into the CC brands. Thanks to Czar, I'm able to try some singles before I commit to a full box.
Peter11216 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Like you, I've just been smoking cigars regularly since last summer. Thanks to a neighbor who smokes, I've been able to try quite a few NC brands and have just gotten into the CC brands. Thanks to Czar, I'm able to try some singles before I commit to a full box. That sounds great. I don't have a large cigar budget, but when I can I like to try whatever I can get my hands on. I'm looking forward to branching out a little from the Dominican brands I smoke most often. While overseas I tried some RyJ No. 3 Tubos. They were dry, and ended up being pretty rotten smokes. Assuming they weren't fake, unfortunately that's my only experience with CC's. I'm hoping to spend some time browsing here, and watching the YouTube reviews, before trying anything from Cuba. Thanks again for the welcome. All the Best, Pete
Peter11216 Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 From one Newbie to another Welcome Thanks a bunch. How's Windsor holding up? I drove through there, on my way up to Montréal, once. And I had a friend who partly grew up there. And a totally random question: What are cigar taxes in Ontario at the moment? Are they unreasonable? Best, Pete

Scardinoz Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Welcome. I'm a fan of Fuente's stuff, as well. I've known nothing but good people from Brooklyn. Don't be the bad apple that spoils the bunch.

Don't be the bad apple that spoils the bunch. I'm trying. I got to say, in agreement: my wife and I moved here from the City three years ago, and (practically) everyone has been really great to us. I think I've actually gotten more friendly since living in Brooklyn.
