Puros Y Vino Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 For most, these would be "special event" cigars. I've had a 52 and while I enjoyed it, it did not blow me away. I do want to try the 54 & 56 so these samplers the Czar put together are a treat. A box of each is hard to find and afford. I ordered a sampler elsewhere two weeks ago and the Czar price is better. I received them on Friday and they look and smell fantastic and I must say the quality of the sticks are impeccable. They must have assigned some seriously talented rollers to the task.
Puros Y Vino Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Has anyone noticed if the demand and or price for these has gone up since the CA top 25? Good question. I noticed that the BHK52 is still around $400CDN/box from one retailer in the UK. That was the original price and it seems it's only slightly higher now. The only local place in Toronto that had them wanted $100/stick!! for the 52.
PigFish Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Dear Grand Poobah of the "Moth in Wallet". Queen Lisa has the keys to the pricing chamber and for this humble release I do not trouble myself to such issues of "pricing" (ie...I can't count past fingers and toes...and you need to with the Behike). Generally I do battle with forces of the evil empire which have infiltrated sections of HSA, their minion droid pirates throughout the galaxy and the ceaseless attacks by the red haired Jabba the Hutt which has taken over the Australian Govt. Two days a month I sit in fromt of the cigar box army, raise my hands and watch the great boxes levitate....which I then move to the right. The said "Behike" comes as the saviour of the HSA empire but while I have sampled its succulent fruits I am in the hands of Ja Ja Binks Gargett to determine their real worth. Stay tuned. Give my love to the Mrs What was I thinking? I should have known that I needed to go straight to the top and asked Lisa in the first place!!! Are you guys sure you were smoking Behikes and not Bedoobies? I guess if they make you feel that good.... ... they must have a huge profit margin!!!!
Turrbo Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I have a box of all three sizes. I've tried one from each after they've rested for about 3-4 months. They are still too young but I like the flavor of the 56, but I don't like the ring gauge. The ring gauge of the 52 is nice but I like the flavor of it the least out of the three. It's a great cigar, and it will get better with age. This is a cigar I think we should all have in our humidors for special occasions. Just something to light up when you score that account you've been working on, or get the promotion you've wanted. Or you could do what I did and have one on your sons first birthday party. I HIGHLY doubt this will be anyones daily smoke. This is like that $500 bottle of scotch that you have in the bar, it's GREAT to look at everyday and admire once in a while. I'm just sayn'...
Puros Y Vino Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 That's pretty sick. I guess these sticks started out at the limits of what an average nutjob (myself included) would pay for a super premium stick. Guess they can't go much higher. To be fair, that $100/stick is loaded up with taxes and not so much a cash grab by the vendor. For instance. Take a look at a Siglo VI single the Czar sells or any other single and multiply it by 3 and you have the Canadian price. And that is from a well known established B&M in Toronto. Other newer shops could charge 4-5X more!! Taxes are high margins are low.
brian1 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Slight thread drift: People in power really can be stupid. If the taxes were lowered to something more resonable it would create more revenue for the Gov as people would be more inclined to buy at home. As it is my guess would be that most cigar smokers with a brain will order their cigars online to avoid the ridiculous penal tax in Canada and other places and thus Gov gets ZERO. New York is the same with their tobacco taxes. A pack of cigaretes is like $9 or something, so where do you think the NY smokers buy their cigs...not in NY city. There's this really stupid push/pull dynamic going on. Anti-smoking lobbies pressure the gov't to increase taxes in order to get people to quit and decrease healthcare costs. Which is insane. It's not like the high cost of cocaine make addicts think twice. . The gov't makes tons of money off the taxes, which is primarily from the sale of cigarettes. Of which IMO, tobacco is the least worriesome ingredient. I'm more concerned about the other 4000+ chemicals tossed in that mix. The gov't needs people to smoke cigarettes because it brings in HUGE revenues and spends some money on the other end trying to get people to quit. Guess which number is greater than the other?
Cig Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I just had a 56 this afternoon. It was incredible. Tasted like butter. Yes, butter. I know that's not a common word used to describe the flavor of cigars, but it was there and very prominent. I've smoked a lot of these cigars and not all have tasted like that, but a few have. The BHK line is one of my favorites.
