El Presidente Posted December 16, 2010 Share Posted December 16, 2010 Cuba Registers Record Low Temperatures in Fifty YearsHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 16 (acn) Cuba registered on Wednesday its lowest temperatures for December in the last 50 years with 31 local records The lowest temperature was registered in Colon, central province of Matanzas, with 1.9 degrees Celsius, which is also one of the five lowest temperatures ever registered in the Island, Granma newspaper reports. According to Eduardo Vazquez, with the Forecast Center of the Havana-based Institute of Meteorology, records were established in Indio Hatuey (2.0), Bainoa (2.5), Aguada de Pasajeros (2.7), Jagüey Grande (2.8), Union de Reyes (3.2), Tapaste (3.4), Melena del Sur (3.6) and Santo Domingo (3.6). Other significantly low temperatures were registered in Playa Giron (3.7), Jovellanos (3.7), Santa Cruz del Sur (4.0), Ciego de Avila (4.1), Esmeralda (4.5), Cienfuegos (4.5), Güines (4.6), Batabano (4.7), Santa Clara (5.0), Trinidad (5.7), Veguitas (7.2), Guaimaro (7.8), La Jiquima (8.0) and Manzanillo (8.8). In Casablanca, in Havana, the temperature registered was 12.1 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the current winter season. The national record is 0.6 degrees Celsius, registered in Bainoa, Habana province, in 1996. The lowest five also includes 1.0 in Union de Reyes and 1.2 in Indio Hatuey (January 21, 1971); and 1.8 in Güira de Melena (January 11, 1970). Ridiculous, non-winter-like weather I am in central Florida and we had two nights of bellow freezing temperatures.
